30th Anniversary of Chernobyl Disaster

devastated park in Pripyat near that nuclear power plant

Black Angel walked down in the middle of spring, He spread mortal air on the edge of his wing. Few people knew facts: Radiation does kill. Most people left homes having no proper thrill. Empty kid camps, devastated long squares, Lifeless old parks, single-eyed teddy-bears. Eternal west wind blows among Soviet rides, Some gas masks and rags lie on asphalt besides. The damage to Nature still has to be count, Deformed trees and animals still can be found. But no thing compares to the life of a man. We must guard the Earth with the best that we can.

I didn't realize it had been that long for he Chernobyl disaster as it seems it happened only a few years ago. Is it true the residents that are still alive can't go back to live there.

some desperate residents still live relatively close to the former nuclear power plant. Radiation level is low there for sure. Or they use vodka to fight with radiation.
Ukraine commemorates the 30th anniversary of the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl - the worst in history - with a series of events.

I so remember that happening. I do understand that wild life that had been threatened by man have returned in abundance in the exclusion zone. It really was only this event that I learned that some people have also returned, if not to the 15 k zone, to some of the further out areas.

If our mother earth can only speak, it will surely say enough is enough. What man does to nature goes back to him.

Wonderful poem - very well done. It really doesn't seem that long ago.

that whole area looks sad, it's like what would happen if people just vanished one day never to return

I was just 3 at the time, so I don't have much memory about it. I kind of remember hearing about it from the news, but when you are that young you have other things on your mind!

I remember the news on that day. For many months afterwards farmers in the UK were affected and their milk and meat could not be consumed as the radiation it contained was too high. I think that event was the key that made everyone realise that the whole world is closely connected, what happens in one country or even continent cannot just be ignored but it affects us all.

As Bulgarian I am well known of Chernobyl. The ex-communist leaders here tried to hide this event from the Bulgarian people those days. They even were delivered pure foods and water from Australia. At the same time Bulgarian people ate foods and drank water under radiation influence.
