Call me crazy – how about a Trump/Sanders ticket?

This idea just came to me after mulling over the results of last night’s primaries. It looks like Trump is on the brink of becoming the Republican nominee, eliminating the need for a contested convention. In fact, he has declared himself the presumptive candidate. It has also become clear that Bernie doesn’t have a chance against Hillary and has apparently decided to continue his fight to the Democratic convention, more as a platform “issues” crusader than as a presidential candidate. Trump and Bernie, although both somewhat extreme, and fierce rivals right now, actually do have some similarities. For starters, they both have attracted unprecedented (“yuge” as Bernie would say) crowds at their rallies. They are closer to each other on some issues than they are with those in their own respective parties, e.g. the Israel/Palestinian conflict. They both recognize many of the problems facing Americans today – disappearance of the middle class, lack of jobs, exorbitant college fees, student loans, health care and women’s issues (to a degree). They are both charismatic in their own way. They are both genuine and passionate about their message and not beholden to super PACS, Wall Street and other special interest groups, which is also unprecedented. Granted, they do have some major differences regarding national security but perhaps could temper each other to come up with some rational solutions. Trump and Sanders are also extremely popular among their respective fan bases. They both bring an excitement and passion to the American voters, something the other candidates have failed miserably to do. It’s only a crazy idea and will never happen, but talk about reaching out to both sides of the aisle, compromising and possibly even getting something accomplished! I for one would consider such a ticket, combining the strengths of both sides and compromising on the differences. Image: Pixabay.com

You're right about that! I don't think Trump could handle another ego!

They may have a few similar views on campaign finance reform and Wall Street reform, but that's where the similarities end. But let's forget about that for a minute. There would be other problems. They would both have to drop out before their parties conventions. "Sore Loser" laws in most states would prevent them from running under another banner if they fail to get their party's nomination. Then the race against time to get ballot access in each state. There simply is not enough time now.

I wonder who will give Bernie the money to fight on. Politics is always about money, especially now when the winner is a clear one, the sponsors will always cut off the funding for the losing party, and "bet" on the winning person.
