"You are the heir to the throne..."

I watched an excellent old movie yesterday : "Monseigneur" ("Your Highness"), by Georges Richebé. It tells the story of a Parisian locksmith identified by a historian/archivist like the only direct descendant of king Louis XVI : this makes him the No 1 heir to the throne of France.
During a few days he enjoys the castle life and the money offered by the French nobility (we have still royalists in France, and all of them are not poor), then he abandons the jackets and the tails to return to his locksmith work and marry the daughter of his boss...
Your turn now : a genealogist knocks at your door and tells you that you are the first heir to a throne. Would you accept to leave your life and to play the game, Your Highness ?

A Genealogist Does (s)he have the authority to take me to the throne? I mean, documents need to be verified first...
but much before that, at the first go, I will think this Genealogist is a poor outdated Scammer who does not have Internet (for spam emails) or even a Handset (for Tele Marketing)...

@topffer Yes, that is their plan as it seems. Otherwise they will not take me to be the king. Plus, because they know that I am not the right guy, they may find someone else for the post. Yes, I will be generous towards this person - and may provide him many benefits even inside the prison except meeting outsiders.
So what else do I stand to get / benefit being on that Throne?

@thesids Sending him in prison would be wise. You see, this guy can try to blackmail your majesty : the historian in the movie is asking to the future king to have a part of the money that the aristocracy gives to him telling him that he would not have been king without his help.

I have read a bit of his life as he came to Chile thinking that he could have the title of King of part of my country. It did not work at the end, but that´s another story.
As for myself, I would not give my leisure life for any crown. Kings and Queens have too much work and little liberty, even now.

@topffer The mapuches are more several tribes with the same ethnic background. Some live in Argentina. I´d ask Antoine IV if he is fluent in mapudungun, the ancestral language of mapuches.

@marguicha The "kingdom" was spreading in Chile and Argentina, but you have been the ones to stop its prosperity.
I think that Antoine IV is a mundane king of operetta, but some of these kings of Araucania are interesting, like Antoine-Hippolyte Cros, "Antoine II" : he was a writer and the brother of the inventor of the phonograph, Charles Cros. He has also been the personal doctor of the emperor of Brazil.

I thought at him as a "king of operetta". For what I read he has been elected by an Indian tribe, the Mapuches, and arrested by the authorities of your country. The cemetery of Tourtoirac has also the graves of 2 others kings of Araucania. If you do not know it, there is still a king of Araucania. The actual one, since 2014, is "Antoine IV". They have created a NGO based in Tourtoirac which is called "Souvenir Franco-Araucanien", has been recognized in 2013 by the United Nations and defends now the Mapuches Indians at the UN Human Rights Council.
There are advantages to be a king/queen, but there are also a lot of drawbacks and I believe that I would also decline the offer.

@topffer Either way, a throne is a throne, and I won´t mind accepting it, even for one of this days time sleep. My earnings would go to buying those in need some good smoothies for a good cause.

@quantum2020 Good idea. I would definitely prefer a "eat a smoothie" challenge to an ice bucket challenge.

It is what happened to this guy in the movie : he came back home (he was living in a maid's room under the roof) with the pockets full of money given by the aristocracy and could not resist... But after a while he preferred his job and old friends to the gold of castles.

@topffer I remember a similar movie that I have watched years ago. I think to remember that the title was Mr. Destiny, with Jim Belushi and Michael Cane. Someone who suddenly become rich (thanks to his Guardian Angel), but at the end ask to get back to his normal life.

Very interesting. I know my family tree and there are no royalty that I know of. I read post by @Corbin5 and was impressed you took the time to search some history for her. Well done, she is happy ...

@topffer Whoever comes and says "You are an heir to the throne". That prank! Realistically it can't happen.
If we are to suppose then I would take over the throne. I will hire a group of skilled assassins and get all the politicians assassinated. Start building all over again...
