Strict Guidelines

Guidelines. Strict ones. They aim to help one accomplish a task within ones own or other people's acceptable standards. These are all I've been reading and reviewing nowadays so as not to forget them when doing transcribing work. Thank God there are no rules telling us that you can only read them at one go and never again. I do have a mild aversion to following the rules, in all honesty. I don't like being tied down to something that does not interest me at all but when the need arises, I ought to become better in any possible way I can. Transcribing is a skill that I'm still learning to do accurately, as clean and as well read as a newly turned in project by a seasoned professional. I'm only in it for the money at first but now. I'm beginning to see why this is a popular job and not just because one gets paid. Biting off more than I could chew late last night, I lost a project that could've paid me over $17 for the transcription of a one-hour meeting. That was just one project. It was 11pm and I saw the project that I qualified in. What happened was two hours had already passed but I've only managed to put into words the first five minutes of the audio recording. I was dying at 1am. I was given eight hours to finish everything. This happened because the people speaking were talking too softly and there are words that I'm not familiar with and have to do research to find out if it's an existing word and if it is, what the spelling would be. If I had turned to the guidelines first, I would've save a lot of time. Not all rules are the same.

I searched transcription here for the hope of some stress relief. I have been doing it for a few weeks now and had difficulties adjusting to the different formats and styles. The things that really grinds my gear though is nights like tonight when I'm stuck waiting on the answers to inquiries about unique cases that there is definitely no instruction for and haven't even received a response through any of the three channels of communication I've been told to use- Not even a response about the one I completed over fours ago. Do you still transcribe?

Too bad you missed out on that project. Hopefully you will have another one come up you will be able to do and complete.

Guide lines guides, but it is really boring.
