That co-worker who interferes!

United States

Have you ever worked with a co-worker that interferes? I would be so bothered, acting as if the co-worker was "boss" when clearly she is just a co-worker. I went to the Postal Office today to ship some boxes. The cashier that assisted me was very friendly/nice, told me my prices and I proceeded to pay. As I was paying, the cashier's co-worker beside her - was telling her, she was doing her job incorrectly and that I needed to pay more because my box is "bigger". Well, mind your own business, gosh* The cashier told her co-worker, that the machine did not prompt her to do anything further and that's the price I should be paying! Guess what? The cashier's co-worker stopped what she was doing. And went over, did some extra stuff and I had to pay $10 extra due to my box being 2 inches "larger" than it should be. I shipped the same exact box in the past and never had any problems. - Whatever - I don't mind paying the extra $10 bucks, but dang there is always that person who interferes and acts like they own the company. The cashier who was assisting me was not having any problems or needed help.

I think the way she acted so annoying probably because she think that she's better than her co-worker that served you buy she got great respond from you. I have found similar things and it also when im dealing with 'customer service' thingy.

The co worker who helped me was friendly, nice and of course I am friendly back. The other one was just yapping all sorts saying I had to pay more.

Not quite sure if she's smart or just wants to rip people off and make $ for the company!

That can be quite annoying, unless the cashier that served you is a newbie, so as a senior, perhaps she's responsible to guide her. Glad that I haven't meet any co-workers like this.

@infatuatedbby I guess there are just such people around, hopefully they are not our boss or co-workers.

@infatuatedbby At one of my previous jobs, I hired someone who wasn't really qualified. She did a lot of back-stabbing and was my "supervisor" within a year and a half. It was a pretty horrific situation.

I have been both side of the end. Hated it both ways! But more so when I was forced to interfere even knowing that there was nothing that was wrong. But you know boss rules and boss is always right?? lol

The lady who interfered was just a worker as well. But very controlling - I would hate to work with someone like that always saying you're wrong.

@Daljinder Totally - if the lady who was helping me need help, and you come over and act like that "sure" at least their is reasoning. But when I am about to pay already given the quoted price, why interfere.

Oh she shouldnt have done it that way. I mean, the cashier already told you the amounts due and she corrected her in front of a client. It gives an impression that the cashier doesnt know what she is doing. Bet you are not the only one who is pissed at the co workers behavior..ill hate it if someone will do that to me.

I definitely agree! I was given a price to pay, as I was paying the other co - worker interfered. Why? Was the price too low and she did not like it. The lady who was assisting me did not need any help. She didn't ask for help from the other co - worker, so why interfere and intervene?

Now, I wonder why she did that, there could be a lot of reasons. But I might avoid talking to that person and probably talk to her manager or something. You never know if that person had been bullying that staff for all we know.

I do not work there but as a customer - seeing another employee jump all over an existing employee, is definitely wrong. The employee assisting me had no problems doing the transaction. Her other employee just kept saying the lady did it wrong, etc.

Exactly - if the lady who was ringing my transaction needed help , understanding. But no one asked for your additional feedback or help.

I was in a rather nice mood. Otherwise I would have said something. I did not complain because a few months ago, I actually paid more but didn't have any problems like this co-worker who interfered.

That sure should have been handled differently. I think the co-worker should have waited until the customer left and then explained the 'correct' procedure. The way this was handled was not good business It made the person handling the transaction look like an idiot and, it makes the company look bad. Real bad. If I were the boss over these two both would be called on the carpet.
