I saw this on Fox news. Archaeologists discover 4,800-year-old fossil of a mother cradling a baby in her arms in Taiwan. The mother and child were found among 48 sets of remains. The remains are the earliest evidence of human activity in central Taiwan. Carbon dating technology was used to find the age of the fossils, which included five children.

That is old - really old fossil. I wonder what Charles Darwin would find in that.

@enlightenedpsych2 ...Yeah...I am certain that would happen...in fact, had this been discovered before, a few more religious fights would have not happened. lol

@enlightenedpsych2 Ironically, it is going to be science that will shake the foundations of all religions rather than the other way round. Having said that, we all know that human race did live before 2000 years. Much beyond. Because Jericho has evidence of people having lived as far back as 9000 BC., though human remains may not have been there. Comparatively, Indus Valley Civilization is modern. lol. Wonder which religions they followed, and whether it is possible to genetically trace the migration patterns.

This is interesting, it proves that humans were present on most of the countries of the world.

@enlightenedpsych2 ... I think in Biblical world they did not believe that the world was round. Possibly never knew of sharks and whales...cause there is no mention anywhere..even in our holy books...while there is reference to the universe the shape of earth is not spoken of as far I know.

@vandana7 The Bible does mention whales. Genesis 1:21 - "And God created great whales..." KJV in public domain.

This is probably a series of deaths resulting from disease, thus being a group of people including children. You should edit the discussion to remove one of those zeros from the title.

@Marcyaz A fair point, there are many potential natural disasters that could cause such a result. I see the title still says 4,8000.

We can say that mother's really love their children, just imagine this fossil even how many years had passed and she still cradling her baby. That only shows, mother's love are undying and forever.

@Marcyaz I was trying to think about what kind of cataclysmic event happened at that time in history, but none that I'm aware of. That would put it somewhere in the time of David's reign in Israel. I'm more familiar with the Bible timeline than anything else. So I would need to go looking for what events happened in history at that time.

Taiwan is an island off China coast. So this is away from the highest populated country now. Thanks for this interesting share - siva

Cool looked at that news story. I guess in that time period the three sovereigns era before the xia dynasty existed in China. It was also before paper began to be used. Very simple times.

This is fascinating. However, mummies and such aren't my favorite thing. That's why I changed my major from archaeology. How could I be an archaeologist when I don't like digging up artifacts. If I found something like this I might just faint and have nightmares 'til the end of time.
