A Good Day for My Son! A New Smile, and a New Job!

In an earlier discussion I posted about my son getting his new teeth! He was so happy to once again be able to smile and not try to hide the fact that his teeth were missing.
Before we ventured to get his partial plate he had to go pick up paperwork to bring to a local physician for a drug test. He worried about the drugs that were in his system that would turn up on a drug test. I reminded him that those drugs were prescribed and were supposed to be there. The employer can't discriminate for the medications he takes.
He was told if he passed the drug test he would start the new job next week. That being said, he did pass the drug test!! We brought the paperwork to the employer and they told him he would start on Monday morning at 8 for orientation. He will be working 3rd shift, which is the shift he had hoped to get.
The pay is better on 3rd shift and also being on the night shift will allow him to be present for other obligations that must be done during the daytime. Hoping he will be able to rest enough to make it through each shift.

@mommaj I have been worrying that he would not find anything for work in this backwoods town. Glad that he found something.

He has been waiting for something good to happen for him. Thinks are finally looking up. He has had only minimum wage jobs and worked them, but really needed a livable wage. Now he has it.

Congratulations to him, you must be very proud of him. My husband used to work all 3 shifts in a rotation. He never had any trouble sleeping while on nights, in fact, if he came home and had a nice hot bowl of soup and then went to bed he would sleep until I woke him for supper. And after supper he'd sleep some more until it was time to go into work, he got too much sleep!

My son's problem is that he is a social butterfly. Loves to be around people and doesn't know when to call it quits. LOL.

@ElusiveButterfly He should throw his social butterfly self into a service club, that would allow him new friendships and another network of people. Our son sits on a couple of boards for that same reason.

He is excited about it. He also knows that it will take a while for him to adjust to the hours and to the physical part of the job. Although it is the easier of the shifts, it still is hard on the body.

It takes a little bit to get used to the third shift, but I think he will enjoy it.

My husband works at the same plant. He thought about working 2nd shift, but decided to stay on first shift.

@ElusiveButterfly Ah, I bet they have pretty good health benefits then, and paid time off as well.
We have paid time off, but I've never taken any.

@ScribbledAdNauseum the benefits are really good. Much better than what I could have with the company I work for. He will also get vacation time and personal days.

He has programs that he will need to attend during the daytime so it is important for him to have a 3rd shift job.

@BelleStarr he said it is quiet in the daytime where he is living right now. When he gets his own place I will find him some room darkening drapes so he can truly rest.

@ElusiveButterfly It can be challenging to learn to sleep in the light but I am sure he will do well.

As long as he continues on this path, I won't have to worry.

I hope that he can hang on and keep going. Third shift is brutal. You need to turn your life upside down. Good thing he has prior experience working third shift when he worked at McDonald's.

He lives on his own. I can only suggest he gets plenty of rest. He is a grown man and makes his own decisions. He will be fine.

I am most relieved. He has been looking for a job that will pay him a living wage. This is a great job with excellent benefits too.

Good luck to your son on his new job. The 3rd shift must be a night shift. Does he have any experience working in the 3rd shift. It is good to hear that will get a better pay in the 3rd shift.
