Dusting Renewed my Pride

After my morning walk and breakfast out with the girls, I was filled with renewed energy. So I decided to dust and vacuum each of our five bedrooms. While in my older son's old room, I became nostalgic.
There hung his awards, amidst his trophies and ribbons for literature, swimming, baseball, editor, Scholar Leader Award in recognition for outstanding scholarship and leadership in school and community, among others.
His most precious awards, dusted with love and care, were the ones from college and law school. He was afraid he'd be one of many to flunk out, after hearing the president's address, and surrounded by some of the world's brightest students.
He fooled them all for he graduated both with the highest honors. He made Phi Beta Kappa, was awarded the Kasdan-Montessori Peace Prize, made Law Review and served as an officer and editor, and of course, received his Doctorate of Law degree. He double majored in government and French, studied abroad in his junior year at the Sorbonne and Political Science University, where heads of state from France study. While there, he traveled throughout Europe.
He also had fun with his fraternity brothers, travel in Canada, dating, attending concerts and many college sports events. During his first year of law school, he had a 2 hour phone interview, and was hired on the spot for a high paying summer job in our state. He also was sent to Singapore and Thailand to work one summer by another firm before graduation. He was sought out and wined and dined by the top law firms in New York City, where he began his career.
His old room is clean now and ready for his children when they come to visit.
By the way, he graduated on Mother's Day and remembered to buy me flowers - in the photo!

This is a great Mother~Son shot, and your colour co-ordinated your outfit to his gown!
He's done well with his studies and is obviously in the right field for him.
He must have instilled that drive to excel into his kids as they are doing that at their tender young ages.
Imagine the time warp you fall into dusting off their awards in another 15 or 20 years!

@DianneN Nah, that cannot be true. Are you keeping a memory box for the kids? I kept one with the newspaper clipping from the day that he was born and all of the little and not so little keepsakes that we hold near and dear to our hearts as they grow-pogs, and all kinds of silly things as well as the formal things.

@Juliaacv Yes, I have saved photos, pictures, and cards, newspaper clippings of their fĂȘtes, poetry, report cards, etc. including their baby books. I gave one to my dil so she could compare the grandkids, and I'll do the same for our younger son when the time comes. They all love looking at everything when they visit. I'm trying to do some with my babies, too. Where did the time go??????

@ElizabethWallace You did the wise thing. We have a basement, family room, and big box in their bedroom full of books, toys, and educational toys, too. They love them.

@DianneN When my grandsons lived close, I bought old fashioned toys each Christmas at Restoration Hardware. I kept them at my house, for them to play with when they were over. They loved them, since they were uniques. They also required them to use their minds, always a good thing.

Wow! Your son is a great, talented and awesome person that I know for having all that achievements in his life. You and his children must be proud of him. How I wish my daughters have all that too. , but I know they cannot achieve all. I'm still happy of my daughters.

You have a lot to be proud of. I have no remnants of my sons in their old rooms, I have had too many long term guests lol. The last was our grandson for 3 or 4 years!!

I'm so impressed by the achievements of your son! You did a great job, being his mom!
And, you look like siblings in that photo. You look so young. I love the pearls, so classy! Your outfit matches your son's academic gown.
