The Forbidden City in Beijing was the home of the dragon throne of the emperors of China and commoners were not allowed to enter. The British colonized Hong Kong in the nineteenth century, but turned it over to China in 1997. It is famous as a center for trade, finance and tourism. China is one of the oldest and greatest civilizations in the world, with 3500 years of recorded history. It has the largest population in the world, with more than 50,000 babies born every day. Can you imagine? The Great Wall of China winds through deserts and across mountains for 4,163 miles. It was built more than 2000 years ago to protect China from invasion by the Huns. China’s national drink is TEA. Picture of Forbidden City in Beijing by Pixabay

I grew up in a cultural paradigm that engendered fear of China. I never considered it a desirable destination. However, in recent years, I had the opportunity to take a Mandarin class and as part of our studies, got to learn little about this massive, fascinating, beautiful country. Many of the friends in the congregation have been learning and there is now a Chinese group on our little island. Hen hao!! Now with the JW language app and the new format at meetings, progress is really showing!

Interesting facts about China thanks. I believe you can see the Great Wall from outer space.

That's what I've heard. I don't know how far out in space that that is still true, but it makes sense, that you could see it at some distance.
