In addition to my do over on my drivers test, I will be going to my first physical in years! Well, first since I had my son. I plan on asking if my doctor can do whatever testing I need done to tell me whether i have Lupus or if maybe my pregnancy just made it seem like I did. I am hoping not and if I am then i was advised to go to a different place to get my treatment because the places around here aren't very good. Have you ever had to ask your doctor at a physical to do tests to determine whether you had a certain disease? Did they find out if you had it? Did they send you elsewhere?

I have never done a general check up my entire life. And I know i should do that soon. The only time I go to a doctor is when i think I have some serious disease.

Your doctor will probably have you go for a blood test. If they do a CBC, there are certain values that turn up in many patients who have lupus. However, it's not a conclusive thing. Some people with lupus will have those values, and others will have blood tests that come back normal. You may get a referral to a rheumatologist for further testing and evaluation. My advice in either case will be to keep a journal of symptoms and how you're feeling. Lupus can be tricky because its symptoms are similar to other conditions like fibromyalgia, and it can occur alongside those other conditions. Having something you can refer back to can be really helpful. If you happen to have the "butterfly rash," make sure you document it if it's something that comes and goes. If you can get an appointment with a rheumatologist while it's present, that might be best because it's such a characteristic symptom of lupus. Whatever it happens to be, I hope you're able to get a diagnosis quickly. It took me five years to finally be diagnosed with fibromyalgia, so I've kind of been there done that. If there's anything I can offer specific advice on, please feel free to PM me or tag me in a discussion.

To be honest, and at the risk of sounding rather naive, I do the routine checks but do not want to know any more. I feel that if i dig deeper i just may come up with something i don't want to know about. We all have to leave this world some day - that is inevitable. So i make sure i stay healthy and only if i feel a little different from normal, i pay attention. But no... i prefer not to take extra tests. Please note - this is just my personal opinion....
