I am a firm believer of the aforementioned connection between the kind of music we listen to and the state of mind we are in. But this, only when I analyze myself as I am no subject matter expert. After a rough day at work I play the 'Chill' playlist from Saavn music app. When I start my day I love to hear either devotional indian songs or inspirational, high on life kind of songs. Basically our raw instincts need to be aligned with our surroundings. The sound effect or the waves, the vibrations of the music transcend into the level of activity at a cellular level within our body- I am saying this out of my own search for an explanation, risking to make a complete fool of myself by assuming biological affect music can have on us :D But this is in-fact what I feel.

To some extent , yes the music that we hear reflects our psyche and not the personality itself.
For ex; people who love trance music , you may find a certain pattern in their thoughts and psyche , and same with people who love sufi or rock.
Their personalities may differ but there may be some connection in their psyche.

Of course it does. Think about sad music. It makes you sad to listen to it.
