Yesterday we got a notice in the mail for the Canadian Census. Instead of sending out paper forms this time, we have to go on line and fill it out or phone a number to do it. It has to be completed by May 10 and it is required by law that we do so. I don't mind, I will go on line later today and do my duty. But I am wondering how this works for a lot of older folk who do not use the internet, and who don't like doing things like this on the phone. So did all of my Canadian friends receive their notice this week as well?

Isn't this an odd year for you to have your census? I always thought it was done on the decade. I don't recall ever being part of a census before. Not mandatory here.

@Elizaby Really? I've never seen one. I just figured they got it from some other means like the post office or clerk of records. I wonder why I've never seen a census form.

It is mandatory here in the states. Failure to answer can result in a 199 dollar fine. I just checked.

I think ours may be every five years. There was a question about being at the same address for the last five years

You Canadians are so advanced. In many areas of the US, our census is still done on paper. Have a terrific day!

We may have received one, but we have a post office box, and I haven't been to the post office yet this week. That's on my list of places to get to tomorrow afternoon. Our box will probably be stuffed full with 3 days of mail in it, but most of it will keep I hope.

@AnneEJ When I came home this afternoon, I didn't bother pulling into the garage, I just parked in the driveway and came in the front door, and there lying against the front door was the census form! I filled it out and will drop it off tomorrow.

Since I do so much on line, I don't get a lot of mail, but I do check my box in the lobby every day.

Yes those are the options, and I think that people have been fined in the past for not doing their census.

There is bound to be some people who can't do their census online. I wonder how they will be catered for?

They can do it by phone, but that might be hard for some as well. There is a contact for those who are visually or hearing impaired to get help.

I'm not Canadian. Lol! It's good if they provide a phone option for those that don't have or feel overwhelmed on a computer.

I did mine and it was fairly easy, lots of questions, but most were multiple choice.
