I have a part time job cleaning a church. My paycheck was recently cut in half. I really needed the pay. I will still have to spend almost the same amount of time cleaning. I used to divide it up between two days a week. Now it is one day a week but I have to do the same work. This is the only real life job I have and need it or I would quit. Has your pay ever been cut?

My pay hasn't been cut but my health insurance contribution keeps increasing each year and my pay raise isn't enough to even cover that so it feels like a pay cut. I'm going backwards.

When I was first hired as district secretary for the guidance department of the elementary school system in our town, it was a full time position and also year-round. After the first year it was cut in half to 3 1/2 hours a day. Then it went to school-year as well. I stayed with the job for 3 years. Applied for a full-time position at the local high school and got it!

@akalinus eventually that job also became school-year. I couldn't keep up with the bills. Found something else. Every move I made brought me to where I am today.

@Hatley It is the same amount of work, I have to keep at it until it is clean. There are 106 chairs that must be vacuumed and dusted in the sanctuary alone. It takes a while. And all the other stuff, too.

Wow that is crazy. I have had hours cut at work at one of my part time jobs 5-6 years ago but I promptly got a second job when I found out it would be long term. Working two jobs is a pain in the butt though. Hope things pick up for you soon!

Well, my job got outsourced overseas -- twice. And then I my health fell apart for good. This is truly awful for you, I hope that something turns up soon for you!

@Telynor you've got that right. SS says the cost of living did not go up for us. But the rent, utilities, groceries etc. sure went up.

@akalinus No kidding. I live on social security, and for the last few years there hasn't been a cost-of-living increase. But you can bet the price of food and medication keeps on rising!

If they reduce the working hour and the pay, they will not expect you to do the same amount of work. I think they are also having financial problem. It is best that you get another job. Perhaps a house cleaning job or clean for the cafe an hour a day or something similar.

I'm sorry for what happened. Times are really tough now and I know what it's like to be in a financial crisis. I have no stable job and whatever dollar I earn on the Internet is greatly appreciated especially now that my son's enrollment is already ongoing. Now is a good time to re-assess ourselves for our goals, priorities and skill sets that will eventually help us get through this rut. If it makes you feel any better, I have an almost $2500 debt on top my tuition problem.

It does not make me feel better to see someone else hurting. I hope something good and unexpected opens up for you real soon. It all works out eventually. You will see.

Yes! I have had pay cuts. I know it hurts bad when it happens suddenly with no advance warning. There is simply no way to plan for it.

I was fired once for being lazy at work. It did not cut my pay check, but completely erased it from my hands on Friday. I found me another job afterwards.

Yes and I didn't stay with them long. I would suggest trying to find another job ASAP. That is wrong of them to expect you to do the same work for half the price.

I have never experienced a paycut but I did work once for a company full-time and was laid off without any warning. The whole department I worked in was eliminated. Luckily, I was married then and my ex-husband still had his job.

That is pretty bad to find out they don't need you. My son is always getting his hours cut. His bills don't get cut, though.

What really bites is that at the same time, the phone/internet bill went way up. It is like a double whammy. And we don't even have cable or anything but an antenna.

@akalinus What happened?! Why the cut?! Maybe you got arrears in your church donations!. Just kidding! Quite similar to what is happening with us in our department at work. They are phasing out the host department and asked us to accept a buy out or be moved to another department with fewer hours a week.
