Renting a car for the first time...

I guess this weekend I will be renting a car. in Colorado. For the first time ever! I needed a ride to get from the country back to the airport and this seems like the best option. There are some cars for $15 a day plus tax (and gas I am assuming), which is cheaper than the cost of taking a shuttle. And I will be able to drive and jam to music if need be. Lol. Only thing is - I have never rented a car before. I don't even really know how it's done. Do you apply? Do you have to get approved? How far in advance should you reserve a car? Is there any advice or helpful hints I should know? I have only about a million questions. Have you ever rented a car? Had any bad or great experiences you want to share?

I've rent a car a few times, once there was damage to the car which we hadn't noticed and lost my deposit of £250 ($375)

That is what Im afraid of. ! Did you have to show any proof of insurance before renting it?

We have only rented car before when we went to Australia. It seems like it's easy to rent, we just went there and asked for a car. But I am not very sure how it was, as it's my friend who rented the car, and it's years ago. I didn't know renting a car is cheaper than taking a shuttle there. Usually, we just take a cab/taxi when we are going to the airport or back from the airport.

we did once but it was a long time ago. my sister did when the whole family decided to go to a trip. one thing she made sure of, that the entire gang can all fit in the van. plus an extra space for our things.

I never rented a car. Well, just make sure all the agreements between you and the car owner are all clear to avoid problems.

You should research the different companies that rent cars out because they all have different rates and contracts. It's easy to rent a car and makes it so much easier on you, but you really should look into the different companies that are renting it.

I have never rented a car, but my husband always did when we went for vacations in the US with him. They asked for the drivers licence from what I remember, but I´m sure they would have needed a sort of warranty as they do in hotels (they make you sort of sign a voucher that they´ll get money from you if you wreck the place. As for the rest (we never destroyed them) experiences are good. The cars are new or almost so you don´t have any problems.
