Sitting here just thinking.

As I sit here tonight thinking back over the last several discussions I started I realize that I have to do something to write more interesting. I know that I have not been as regular a contributor here. At least not as regular as I had intended. Also since I have not been out and about very much I don't have a lot of new things to talk about. I try to shy away from making posts about poor little me. I'm sure that gets tiring after awhile so I have got to find something else to talk about.
What makes a good discussion? How do you decide what to write about? Do you think I am being to picky or hard on myself? What can I say that will get you interested?

I like solutions to crime. As I was mentioning in another one of my posts, English as a language fascinates me...there are several usages and slang words that we, the non-natives are not familiar with. If you could come up with explaining some usage, with some amusing examples so that it sticks, we would be delighted. Each such usage can be dissected and served as separate post I suppose.

That is a good idea but I see that working better if you ask about words you don't quite understand. I realize that English is a hard language if you are not born to it. And slang changes every generation, sometimes every few days in fact. I am always most happy to clarify anything I've said and would be willing to help even if I wasn't the one who said it.

@savak03 ...Actually, when those words are used, it just happens that some funny conversation is in progress. If I ask, the conversation kinda stops. So I don't feel like asking. That is why it would be nice if you all could come up with challenges or tutorials ...something that we non-natives would enjoy and learn from.

@savak03 People are interested in earning, their money, things that might affect them, animals, funny things that happen, etc. What are you interested in? Other people will be interested in it too unless it is something so weird that you are the only one.

@MGjhaud I spent so much time yesterday responding to comments and discussions as well as checking my older posts for responses I may have missed that I didn't get time to create a new discussion. I did get several ideas though. I also learned how to edit my profile so that was a good thing. You know sometimes you put info in that you later wish you didn't or leave out something that you should have put in. I'm glad we can edit them.

I tend to respond more than I create myself. I do like to post at least one discussion per day. So far I haven't reached that goal. In fact yesterday I took the whole day off and didn't even turn my computer on. I got caught up in my games and Facebook on my phone and before I knew it the day was over.

My memories of my childhood are spotty. But when I started researching my family tree on Ancestry I began to remember more. In fact I had planned on doing some posts about things I remembered as a way to keep these memories alive now that I have them back. I really need to take a day and get started on that.

Well, I love to entertain people . . so, I write funny stories. Just say whatever makes you feel good . . it is the way you say it that makes other people feel good, too!

I think writing about interests in things like book, movies and music is nice because you can find out how your tastes align with others, when people respond to your post.

Well, I'm a sci fi fanatic and a die hard Trekkie and I love country music. Now, mind you that is not the sum total of my likes but they are my favorites. I could probably hold my own in a conversation about most books, movie genres and musical styles.

@savak03 It's nice that your tastes are diverse. I like the original Star Trek.

@puddleglum I've watched them all even the movies. Some movies have scenes that are so memorable they stay with us many years. One such moment was a dramatic scene in Star-trek First Contact. This was where Picard made the speech about how we always withdrew every time we met the Borg. In that speech he said "The line must be drawn Here" I don't remember the exact wording of the entire speech but he delivered it with all the Shakespearean training and personality at his command.

I respond to discussions that I can add to or that I have knowledge on the subject. If I don't understand a discussion or know nothing on the subject I may read trough the discussion and all the comments to get a better understanding of something, but I wouldn't necessarily comment to it.

I would do that too but a lot of what has happened to me lately has been bad so I don't want to constantly depress everybody. Of course it is nice to be able to vent once in a while but I don't want to get the reputation of being a whiner.

every writer should write about their own life - you are more interesting than you think

I think you are being a little to hard on yourself. Of course you want what you write about to be different and bring in some awesome feed back, but I do enjoy the posts about peoples days and what they have been up to as well. I know I have a variety of posts from when I was here before and I will be trying to keep it open with more discussions in more categories as well

There's plenty to write about. We don't have to leave our homes to find something to wrote about. Of course it helps. I'm sure you can find plenty to write. It sounds as if you're out and about a lot so you should have plenty dicussions under your sleeve.

I don't think there is just one thing that makes a good discussion.

I am interested in so many things it is hard sometimes to settle on one topic. I tend to ramble on when I get started. I have to learn how to refine my writing to be more concise and to give the other person an opportunity to add something to the discussion.
