Wild Fire

My heart goes out this morning to the people who live in Fort McMurray, Alberta and the surrounding area. A mass evacuation is taking place and many homes and buildings in the area have already been destroyed by fire. There were reports on the news this morning of men fighting the fire in some areas, even though their own homes had already been destroyed. There have been reports of people being caught in a traffic jam as the fire came dangerously close to them. In one place the flames jumped a river, putting more areas in danger. Will you join me in prayer today, that the Lord will send rain, and that He will be with each of those people there who have had to flee their homes, not being able to take much with them. What a terrible ordeal to face.

I was watching the news in French this afternoon on TV and it was quite upsetting to see and hear the people talking about it.

I heard the news. It's so sad. I feel so sorry for those who must leave their homes behind.

@AnneEJ that's a lot of buildings. It really must be terrible for them to leave their homes, and loose everything. I can't imagine how they must feel.

Just read that over 1600 structures had been destroyed. It must be terrible to just have to get out of your home, knowing that everything will be gone.

I read about some people who had taken in folks from another area, and then had to flee themselves. Also, that because of the shortage of fuel, many who were trying to get out were stranded on the highways.

@AnneEJ The fuel situation sounds like a logistical nightmare. There will be a lot to sort out even after the fires are extinguished.

@Marty1 When I say "logistical," in this case, I mean the organization and management of a large group of people. Specifically, I was thinking about how emergency service people and local government officials dealt with the mass of people on the roads with their cars breaking down and everything. That, to me, was the nightmare part. Maybe "headache" would have been a better word.

@AnneEJ I heard on our news today that they think they might be getting a handle on things. I hope that's true. They've had enough of this.

It is a long ways from me, is in Alberta. Wild fires have spread rapidly from forest area to the city and surrounding towns.
