While I cannot remember a time when I was not a writer, my professional writing experience began with the Yahoo Content Network, where I quickly discovered that I did NOT want to be a journalist! It was fun for awhile, and only took me a year and a half to earn five dollars.
After submitting my first article, I started my first Blogspot blog, Old Roads Once Traveled, but I knew nothing about monetization, so I joined Squidoo. There, I quickly discovered that I did NOT want to be a content marketer, either.
Soon after, I discovered a very happy medium in social blogging. I quickly became addicted to it. What could be better than making friends and getting paid nicely to interact with them? I made a lot of friends at Bubblews, and later at Persona Paper, but the bottom soon fell out of the social blogging market, and I was not diversified enough to survive the loss of income with the demise of Bubblews.
My beloved blogging partner, Guiness the Cat, found his voice along with me at Bubblews, and soon started his own Blogspot blog, The Guiness Blog by Guiness the Cat. Sadly, he passed away in October, 2015, leaving much to be said and written.
Meanwhile, life intervened and the need to make a living took away from writing time. Teaching piano lessons, which I have done since the age of sixteen, was no longer a dependable source of income, so I have added other income streams akin to “a real job” to my portfolio. While these take up a good bit of time, they at least allow me a small financial cushion that I hope is going to allow me to wade back into the business of writing.
I have another writing collaborator now in Huckleberry the Kitten. Huckleberry came along not long after Guiness passed away. Huck has aspirations of being a kitty blogger like his predecessor, and has been in kitty blogger training most of his life. He has taken over as editor of The Guiness Blog by Guiness the Cat, and he is in charge of reworking and archiving the works Guiness the Cat left behind. Huck very much enjoys interacting on Facebook, where he has his own Facebook page. He’s looking forward to getting his paws wet writing here and hopes to meet other kitty bloggers.

I saw Mildred's post while looking at your activity and visited her first. Because I was here before going there I guessed that Guiness was the one she was referring to, but I'm not guessing I was partially correct although time will tell for sure. But it will probably be Huck that will be in cahoots soon with Mildred if he isn't already.
Sorry about your loss with Guiness, but glad that you have someone new to love and teach the fun of writing to. Just make sure he doesn't turn into your longer known friend once he reworks all of his words.
Oh and welcome to mylot.

I knew even before Guiness passed away that the next kitty I got would have to be a blogging kitty. The first day I was given Huck, he went nutty over an ink pen, so I knew he was The One. He's not as opinionated at Guiness (yet, but he's a cat and he'll get over it), but he's energetic and inquisitive.
It's good to see old friends here.

@OldRoadsOnceTraveled That was funny about him going nutty over a pen. They do go nutty about stuff don't they? While I've never owned a cat, my account did and he was funny to watch. He should have been an accountant as he went nutty over the spreadsheets on the desk.

Welcome Debbi and Huckleberry the Kitten to myLot! Mildred the Cat and I are so happy to see you've decided to join. We think you both will like it. Mildred and I were fortunate enough to get to know you and dear Guiness from Bubblews and PP. We are so looking forward to getting to know Huckleberry better. Mildred can't wait to share her advice, experience and wisdom with Huck and the rest of the feline world and also hear what Huck has to say. If he's anything like Guiness, he's going to take the internet by storm!

Yahoo Content Network was originally Associated Content which is where I started.

It had changed by the time I got there, and from what I heard, wasn't as good. But it taught me a lot, and for that, I'm thankful.

@CoralLevang I was there after Yahoo took it over. Not a great place to write, but an incredible place to learn. They had courses both in internet writing in general and specifically for the site. Even though I took Media Writing in college, most of what I've learned about internet writing, I learned in Yahoo's "university".

That is awesome that you love blogging so much. I have a blog on blogger but I haven't really earned anything from it. I never earned anything at Persona Paper either. After over a year I had only earned $3 and then they are shutting down and I will never be paid. I transferred all my writings from Persona Paper to blogger.

Welcome to myLot (albeit a bit late). Hope that you are doing well here. My condolences on Guiness, and I hope that Huckleberry finds his writing muse.
