Why Do I Get A Full Nights Sleep And Still Wake Up Tired?

We all have a problem sleeping from time to time. Still others wake up day after day feeling sluggish and fatigued. Have you had a physical lately? Diseases and bad health can weaken the body and make us feel tired. Here are some other things that may cause a person to not get the rest they need:
1. Acid reflux can cause you to awaken from your sleep. You may have symptoms of heartburn. Or you may just have fitful sleep. I have this occasionally and get a couple Tums and eat them and I am fine.
2. Nocturia is another. This is when you wake up alot in the night to go to the bathroom. The National Sleep Foundation says that about 65 percent of adults are not getting their rest due to this problem.
I found it interesting that normally our bodies will concentrate our urine so we can get six to eight hours of sleep. But, when we get older things don't work as well.
3. Bruxism is when your jaw pops and clicks. Teeth grinding. It is a subconscious neuromuscular body activity. You may not be aware of it. Either your mate will tell you or the dentist will detect the wear on the teeth. You may have sore face muscles.
4. Restless Leg syndrome. Doctors aren't sure what causes this. If you wake up with the covers wrapped around you this may be the reason.
5. Shift Scheduling. Or working under bright lights. Working late night to early morning can cause all kinds of problem with the sleeping cycle. We are normally meant to sleep at night and be awake during the day.
6. Sleep Apnea. Snoring. This is when there is an unconscious airway obstruction. In overweight people this happens. About 20 million people suffer from this.
7. Screens of newer TVs and technology. Modern technology is such that the light they emit can cause a disruption in our sleep cycle. Falling asleep with a light left on, a TV left on or the light your cell phone may have on it can all be a problem.
8. Maintaining a sleep schedule. Even on the weekends. If some get off their regular schedule it can be very hard to get back to sleeping well. To calculate the correct amount of sleep you need you can use an app like Sleepyti.me to calculate the best time to fall asleep, based on your sleep cycles.
9. Snack on the right food. If you need to have a snack before bedtime be sure it is something that will help you sleep, not impede it. Coffee and black tea is not a good choice because of the amount of caffeine in them. Cherries or their juice is very good. Low-fat items low carbohydrates.
10. If you are bored, stressed, anxious, over worked, burnt out or have experienced a major event in your life these things can cause you not to get a restful night's sleep. So, if you have a new job, a breakup or a move this could cause you problems. If this goes on for more than two weeks you should consult a mental health professional.

My cell phone goes black when I go to bed. Can't handle even the slightest of lights. The only light comes from the glow of the electric alarm clock. My husband is a bed hog and snores too. My cat thinks the bottom of the bed near my feet is her territory. I wake once to go pee. Fall back asleep once my head hits the pillow again. He wakes at 4, hits the snooze bar at least 3 times or more. Gets up and sits with the light and fan going in the bathroom. Showers, comes in and turns the light on to find his clothes and dress. Kisses me goodbye and there I lay hoping to go back to sleep for that last 45 minutes.

@celticeagle I keep thinking that I should sleep in another room. Not positive I can do it. Not sure he will like it either.

I am so glad I no longer have a man in my life. As long as my daughter isn't manic and I know she will get up in the morning then I can sleep and not stay up all night to be sure she gets up.

I have bruxism and RLS. I've broken my teeth because of bruxism. I wear a mouthpiece, but still my face hurts.
My dad frequently wakes up at night with leg cramps. It has happened a lot over the years. So he'll eat a banana and the potassium makes it stop. He tries to eat one a day for prevention, but he's diabetic, and a banana has loads of sugar.

Number ten is constant for me. I also find that the interesting stuff happens on the internet when I should go to bed.

Murphy's Law I think. I also think that some are more sensitive to the effects of stress and anxiety than others aos.

I always thought exercise before was good but they say no. Allow some time to come down before going to bed.

I have sleep apnea and use a cpap machine which keeps me from having the episodes. It helps me out a lot but I have lost about 75 pounds recently and I feel like the pressure is too high on it because I wake up with extreme dry mouth and do not feel as rested as I did.

You should have it checked. Isn't there someone who could check it ? Glad you were able to lose the weight. You might not need the thing anymore.

@celticeagle I definitely am going to speak to my doctor to see if she can put in an order for me to have the pressure checked on it. It would be amazing if I didn't need it anymore that's for sure. Thanks!

newer mattress has helped with the tossing and the turning problems, I do need to watch how much I drink, that glass of water before bed is waking me up to pee!

@Jessicalynnt ...I wish someone would give me one. I just want a boxsprings and a good mattress with the topper on top. I'd be happy then. Am sleeping on a child's size mattress now. It is very old and worn. I'm really sick of it. Can't afford a new one and could not get it here if I found one. So, I am out of luck.

@celticeagle I saved up amazon cards earned on crowdtap and got a memory foam topper, that helped tons. The a friend gave us her spare room mattress that was so rarely used

Many people have trouble sleeping, one thing that messes us up is caffeine to late int he day as well as not shutting off the electronics, unwinding before bedtime and night trips to the bathroom. We need to prepare for bed a little better.

Yes. People seem to think that caffiene won't bother them. I use it as a dieretic.

I never get a good nights sleep, and I've tried everything. It makes it better if you can take a nap during the day. I use decaffeinated tea and coffee, If I had caffeine I would probably never sleep. My doctor prescribed serotonin but it didn't work either.

Have you tried melatonin? It is natural and I use and we give it to my grandson to help him get to sleep at night.

@celticeagle yes, that's what I meant when I said serotonin. I've heard it helps many people sleep, I guess I'm the odd one out.

6 hours sleep for me is enough. But sometimes I feel tired even with more than 6 hours of good sleep. I found out that lack of exercise is the reason of feeling tired after a good night sleep. Since I started exercising . . (jogging, push ups, and now tennis), I don't feel tired in the morning.

I have restless legs only when I don't drink enough water. I always have a water bottle at my fingertips and am drinking all day. That also causes me to be up every couple hours at night heading for the bathroom.
