What do you think of pre-need insurance?do you think a person must get one? Or you will rather save your own than get an insuarance that migh close in like 10-2 years?

Always have one...but progress slowly to the level you need. That is the way. I reckon by the time I touch 75 I will need medical insurance of about 50,00000 INR...so I now have about 30 and will by another 20 to 25 in due course. :)

@rona07 ..I do not have kids and other responsibilities so life insurance is something I do not need. But I see enough justification for that as well. As a thumb rule...I wouldn't spend more than 5 to 7 percent of my annual income towards insurances because that is when it ceases to be profitable I think. And within that...medical insurance to be reviewed each year based on going rates of the hospital rooms, etc. and cover to be kept at twice that. The moment it slips below twice, buy more cover. Therefore, a ten days cost at hospital with today's costs would be 1000000 INR...I have cover of 3000000. I can wait till that cost increases to 1500000 INR to buy another health insurance cover kind. Agreed it would seem expensive, but if discounted value of money is considered it seems reasonable enough.

I guess you mean pre-need insurance specifically like that which is for education, retirement or memorial plan?
