Sights and Smells- What is the connection?

Yesterday while doing a survey on another site, I saw this graphic of a skunk. As I looked at it, I could smell a skunk. I know there was not one around at that time, but drawing from experiences in the past, for a few seconds I could smell one. It was weird, I wondered if there was something wrong with me.
So I did some research and found the word "synesthesia". The definition of this s "the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by stimulation of another sense or part of the body." It was interesting reading.
Apparently there are some people who see a colour associated with different words. And we all know that when we smell coffee or some foods, we can taste them. I suppose it also applies to reading about someone being injured in an accident or whatever, and almost feeling their pain.
Can you think of a time when you experienced one sense triggering another? When someone mentions coffee, can you smell it, or taste it?

When I saw your words "fresh baked bread", I could imagine sinking my teeth into a warm slice, with lots of butter and molasses, like we had when we were kids. I hope my sister bakes bread when I am there visiting her in a few weeks.

That is interesting. I think that looking at certain pictures derive a smell because we have a memory of it.

The poor eyesight of sheep is compensated by its good sense of smell and hearing.

@AnneEJ And that shows God's fairness -what you lack in one is compensated by another gift, as you said.

My mother was very positive that different days had different colours (Monday was a soft bluish-green, Wednesday was yellow and Friday was brown) and I know many people who associate musical keys and notes with colour. I can conjure up the smell of oranges and a few other things just by thinking of an image of them.

I hadn't really thought about it before, but when I had that experience yesterday, I decided to look into it. I suppose from now on i will be watching for instances.

Not that I recall, but normal memory triggers such things too.

I have never remember about the connection between sight and smell.
