Do you trust members who keep deleting their own posts and comments?

This is something I don't see very often but it makes me feel rather uncomfortable. When a member has been here a really long time but has only a handful of posts and you KNOW they've made far more than that, should we have to conclude that for some strange, self-obsessed reason they might have sat in front of their computer and DELETED all those old posts? And if the same member keeps deleting their comments on other people's threads so that the thread no longer makes any sense, isn't that also more than a little bit odd? Of course I can't rule out that their posts might have been deleted by the admin - but I can't imagine that would happen to so many posts. It feels like the MyLot equivalent of somebody in the real world repeatedly claiming "NO, I never said that, how could I have said that, PROVE IT" I shall just go back to ignoring such people.

I don't understand why anyone would delete posts. I know old ones become yesterday's news but there's always a shot someone will read those oldies to mutual benefit.

I've not been here long enough to notice that, but I can't see the point of doing it.

I can see this could happen once or even twice cause I know weird things can happen sometimes, but, it this is a ongoing thing I'd take them off my following list at least for a while. I like to give everyone a chance but, there are some things that put up red flags after a while.

I find that odd myself, those old things can always make more money, so I leave them. i have only deleted a comment when...well no, I dont delete I edit when I realize what I said made no sense or something, and I have never deleted a post.

I have deleted a comment on a post when later responders went off on a massive tangent and I got fed up of getting alerts for their irrelevant conversations. I've also occasionally deleted a comment when people got angry and arsey about it - easier to withdraw it than see it escalate into nastiness.

@Jessicalynnt For the fractions of a cent I'd rather shut them up :-)

You are right, deleting one or 2 comments one can understand, but continuously deleting posts is not so correct, why post in the first place makes one appear a lier and a cheat cheating the system

I deleted hundreds of posts on Bubblews after they paid only a 1/3 of what they owed me and I didn't see why they should earn any more money off my efforts. But I wouldn't do it here.

@boiboing See,you had a good reason but posting here then deleting a few days later i find not so fair, if we all did that, there will be no posts here

This does seem a very dubious practice, which fortunately I have not seen so far.

I might delete my posts if I chose to close down my account. But I haven't thought about closing my account, so I guess I'll leave the posts as they are

Me too. If I thought I'd written something really dumb or that I'd offended somebody, I'd probably think about getting rid of it.

@Drosophila Sometimes you only realise AFTER you've posted that people might take things in a different way than you intended.

Ruins the flow of a good discussion thread ... But deleing an old post, unless it contained something distressing, I cannot see the point in that, tbh.

I do not see any good reason for one to delete but we cannot tell them what to do

No, seriously if that's what they want to do, let them knock themselves out. BUT it does leave a lot of unanswered questions.

I have seen a few members deleting their posts and I have not understood the reason. I have only deleted a couple of comments that I did not like, I thought it was better than to report to Alex.

I guess I haven't been on here enough to notice something like that. I will edit a post or comment but never have I or would I delete one. Once I hit respond it's there in cyber world forever. Now if I have done something wrong would an administrator let me know before deleting or just delete with out telling me? I've only been here since last fall so I don't have everything memorized about this sight yet. Have a blessed evening.

I don't know the answer to your question but I suspect that the admin would be too busy to notify people about every deleted post or comment.

That's an interesting suggestion - people have done that on other sites but I don't think it's the reason this time.
