Top 10 Favorite Opening Acts #8 - Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks

#8 in my Top 10 Favorite Opening Acts series is the indie rock band Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks. Vocalist/guitarist Malkmus is best-known for serving in that role for critically-acclaimed indie darlings Pavement, but has been performing with the Jicks since 2000. I saw the Jicks open for Radiohead at Red Rocks in 2003, and it was a treat just watching Malkmus play. (Although he could have been a bit clearer when introducing the band. Several around us were calling them "Stephen Something and the Something's.") That was about the only thing he did wrong that afternoon. His guitar play was as stellar as always, and the band more than justified being Radiohead's support group (seriously. I actually pondered this for awhile after their set. I really couldn't think of anyone I'd have rather seen right then.) By the way, if you dig extended guitar jams, Malkmus' play on the link below might be right up your alley.

My chances of knowing any of the opening acts are pretty silm. The last few concerts I've been to are old time 70s acts who have dispensed with openers

I've only been to a few concerts that had no opening band. It was a bit weird to me.

Never heard of them. The song was like a throwback to the 60s in length with the long jam going soft then hard.

There is a bit of psychedelia going on, isn't there.
