Before Technology Took Over

If you are an adult by now, you must have lived the era when life was not yet a cluster of electronics and Internet.
We cannot disagree on how technology has made our lives easier, but also taken away the simplicity.
I got hold of my first smartphone and came to be using the Internet about 5-6 years ago. To be honest, life was better before that. It was easier to be happy, as we could focus more on living our 'real' lives, unlike now, when the virtual world means almost everything. We do not dare take our eyes off the phone, or laptop and take a look at the world beyond.
At times I wish I could go back to the time before technology took over.
Don't you, too?

I think that depends on the person and not on the existence of technology.
I do have a phone but it's inside my bag. I only bring it out when I'm about to sleep since I use it as an alarm clock.
I only use my laptop for work purposes. Same is true with access to internet. I don't use or own social media accounts.
As to living my life with the existence of technology, it is still the same except for some that was made faster by technology. My focus on things that matter is still there. It was never distracted or taken over by technology.

I am jealous of you! lt's great that you haven't been a part of the social media or let it control your life. But hey, you are on myLot! Isn't that social media too? Do you not sometimes get anxious to check the notifications you have received or the money you have earned? Has it not disrupted the peace of your life even slightly?

@Dishari I was referring to Facebook, Twitter and the likes. I'm not addicted to myLot.
No, I'm not. As to earnings, I never checked them since I started here since I'm too busy with work.
No, it didn't and will never disturb my life since I'm not attached to gadgets/technology.

At times, yes. Technology has its advantages and disadvantages. I love the fact that I can chat or contact with my family and relatives abroad... however you are right, I think ever since I got my phone, I am constantly on it.
Overall, I also want to go back in time when life was simpler.

I agree - technology should should be something to be enjoyed and to make life easier - it shouldn't be the be-all and end-all of life.
I was in a restaurant the other day and the people at the next table were all concentrating on their phones instead of talking and laughing together.
I lived for 73 years without a computer or internet, so am comparitively new to all these gadgets.

Technology is a big part of our lives. I remember when technology wasn't at our disposal but now things are surely changed. I don't think we'll know what to do without it. Sometimes we may need to shut it down but I can't imagine getting rid of it completely.

Neither can I! And there lies the problem. Technology has taken over our lives and when I say I wish to go back to old times, I do not mean to have a life discarding technology, I mean to have the life where I hadn't yet met technology.

It depends if I compare it to the time when I went to bookstores that were still open and available, plus bowling centers (most have closed down or people are not going to them) etc, or compare it to an earlier time when there was hardly any technology TV, washers and dryers, central heating and plus no AC units, not that many cars to choose from, when thinking of my parents era wartime

Yeah, it's complicated. Technology sure has given us a lot. But we really take into account the time before technology flourished, I don't think people were actually sad or had problems living without it. Now that we have known their use, it's us who pity the time before technology took over, not the ones that actually lived it.

Sure there is. But the fact is that before smartphones intruded, it was easier to concentrate on real life. There is no distraction. Now, technology takes up most of our times.

Everything has advantages and disadvantages and I guess how we use the technology is the issue

well, technology is the sign of development, so no worries for me. if before a snail mail takes a month to reach its destination, now, an email is in several seconds only.

The most annoying thing to me is people being busy with their phones while hanging out or eating out or whatever. If you were going to just immerse yourself in your phone then why the hell did you come ? Should have stayed at your home instead.

I know! It's irritating and pathetic. It only proves how 'chatting' has taken over actual human interaction.
