Mother's Day

For me, Mother's Day is a day to remember two very special women in my life. My mother, with whom I often had a love/not so much love relationship has been gone since 2004. When my father passed away in 1980, Mom's health began to decline. She was so lonely without him and her level of anxiety began to grow and grow until I finally moved back in with her to be her companion and eventually her nurse. There were many things that Mom did in my younger years that made me want to stay far away from her. Now that I'm older, more experienced and a bit wiser, I realized that she really did the best she could. Between her own childhood experiences and being the kind of mother she thought was expected of her, she made a lot of mistakes. But all mothers do. And, in the end, I was glad to be the one who cared for her before she went home to God. I pray for her every day now and hope I've been forgiven for the way I used to feel about her, back when I was a less generous woman. My mother in law was called home to God a few months before our wedding. She wanted to see us married so badly, too. She used to talk to me about it all the time. I loved her so much. She was a beautiful woman and while she had her own problems, both physical and emotional, she also did the best she could and her family loved her deeply for it. She and I had an exceptional relationship from the second we met and she actually asked me to marry her son before he even proposed! lol She wasn't afraid to speak her mind, either, but mostly she made me laugh and she wasn't afraid to tell me how much she loved me. I miss her so much. I love them and miss them and wish they were both here with me today. The sun came out finally for this day when we celebrate our mothers and I'm sure they can both feel my love enveloping them from here. -Claudia- image from pixabay

So many people think today is just a happy day. But for those of us who only have memories, it can be difficult

There is a lot of "missing Mom" today from a lot of people. I feel very emotional today and I have been listening to a lot of French songs since it was my mother's tongue.

My nephew usually spends the day listening to his mother's favorite music. It makes him feel that she's right there with him again. :)

thanks, Alfredo. I've tried to put myself in my mother's shoes and it changed everything for me.
