I just finished watching (for the first time) the well-acted movie Mrs. Miniver, starring Greer Garson, Walter Pidgeon, and Dame May Whitty. For all but the last few minutes, I thoroughly enjoyed the acting talent and the concept that seemed to be coming across that war just plain stinks. I was well pleased to watch it. That is, I was pleased to watch it until...
Until the bombed out church seen where the preacher gets up and spews out some of the worst garbage I've ever heard. No, not the reading of the 91st Psalm, which was read without any explanation whatsoever. But the commentary of the preacher thereafter, and indeed the complete religious scene, was used as a platform for nationalistic propaganda.
It is clear to me, ever more so as a result of watching this motion picture, that the media, especially during the times of war are 100% devoted to furthering the cause of global violence.

You have to remember this was feel good MGM product for the war effort so that's why the propaganda which you have to understand was necessary in those dark days. Yeah, it's corny but sometimes you have to remove today's sensibilities when viewing an old film. We have not lived under falling bombs every night in a world with an Adolf Hitler.

Your logic makes a certain sense and is logical, yet there is a flaw most people don't recognize. At the end, it is the RELIGIOUS LEADER who tells the people to go to war (and, hence, to kill). And, he suggests God backs up their side. God backs up no human originated wars. And when it comes to taking up for God or for country, can you guess which one the Christian is supposed to choose?

@KuznVinny I understand what you are saying. I am just saying that is how they made movies during the war. It's no different than the absurdity of two Texas high school football teams praying to God for victory. Don't they realize God is being put on the spot having to chose a winner.

@JohnRoberts Double thumbs up! God doesn't care one iota about the outcome of football games.
