I am wanting to get a puppy friend for my 6 year old son but am wondering what dog I should get. He wants more siblings, but that is not something that will happen soon or at all. Sorry son. lol but anywho. I want to get him a dog for his birthday. Which dogs are best with children. Do you have any pictures with your furry friend?

I may be a little late in responding (so I hope he had a great birthday if I am). Over the years, what I have found is the best way to get a pet is to let the pet pick you instead of the other way around. So, if it is not too late, surprise your son by taking him to the shelter or the pet shop and allowing the right dog to pick him.

Almost all dogs are good with children. I have heard pitbulls can be really protective, though they look fierce. And yes, avoid Rottweilers and Dachshunds, they can be aggressive.

We have a Doberman/Miniature Pinscher mix. Got her from our local humane society when she was a few months old, so she's been raised to be good with our kids from the get-go.
I think any breed can be "good" with kids as long as you show them that YOU (and your son) are the Alpha in your pack.

You can get a Tibetan, a Pomeranian or a pug pup which are friendly dogs and he can easily handle them.
