Just One Month Ago

It's hard to believe it's already been a month. Approximately this time a month ago I got the phone call regarding my father and was rushing around like a chicken with her head cut off.
It was hard being in that hospital room, but at least I did say goodbye. I don't think I'll ever forget the sound of a death rattle ever again. I've often heard of them, but had never heard one.
We didn't stay up there the whole night, but a few hours. He was still alive when we all left at 3:30 in the morning.
And then I got the phone call around 1 PM that my father had passed.
Time doesn't stand still. Life goes on and will continue to go on until that moment when each of us faces the same situation and leave this earthly body and home for a new body and new home.
I know my father is in heaven with my mother. I also know my grandparents are there and my brother. One day there will be a grand reunion day when we will all be together again never to part. I look forward to that day, even while I finish the work I'm supposed to do here.
Loss is part of everyone's life. I hope it hasn't visited you recently.
Thanks for reading.

today is my late mother's birthday. us siblings changed our avatars on FB with our mother as the center of it, and it feels good to see her face again in picture.

My father and I had been estranged for the better part of 43 years when he was finally ready to make amends. By then, he was in the 4th stage of Emphysema. He passed away four months ago tomorrow. I still get weepy and want to talk to him sometimes, but it gives me peace to know that the Vietnam War has finally ended (for him).
