Day 52 Psalm 52 Psalm 52:1 (To the chief Musician, Maschil, A Psalm of David, when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David is come to the house of Ahimelech.) Why boast thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? The goodness of God endures continually. 2 Thy tongue devises mischief; like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. 3 Thou love evil more than good; and lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah. 4 Thou love all devouring words, O thou deceitful tongue. 5 God shall likewise destroy thee forever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. 6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: 7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness. 8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever. 9 I will praise thee forever, because thou hast done it: and I will wait on thy name; for it is good before thy saints. How many people do you know who will do anything to get what they want, lying and conning their way through life as though they were the most innocent person on earth and had never done or said anything wrong? They make promises, but never follow through, always telling you that this time is different. However, it is never different. They are empty words and promises, lies to get what they want and as soon as they have what they want, they go their way forgetting everything they promised. However, God sees the heart. He knows whether the words you spoke are true or false. It is best to keep your tongue from evil and speak the truth at all times. When David fled from Saul, he went to the priest, Ahimelech, and asked for bread, sword, and spear, and told the priest that his men were pure because the bread was holy for the priests only, and received what he required. However, Doeg from the household of Saul was also there, and saw and heard the exchange between Ahimelech and David. Doeg later told Saul about the exchange and Ahimelech and the other priests there at the time lost their lives because they had helped David escape from Saul. David’s conscience might have smote him a little with the words he penned as he recalled the lies he told to get what he needed as he fled from Saul. You and I might not be people who practice deceit, lying to get what we want, but we have all lied at one time to get out of trouble or get what we wanted. James said the tongue was the hardest member to control. James 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. David recognized how deceitful his tongue was, and he recognized God’s enduring mercy. Though he had used his tongue to get what he needed, he confessed his sin and could still praise God. As Christians, we need to recognize those traits in us that are not pure and holy, and confess them early and God will forgive us and cleanse us. If you have made a habit of lying and being deceitful, there is still hope as you turn your life over to God, and trust him to provide what you need. Let’s pray: Father, forgive me if I have used my tongue as a means to gain what I want instead of trusting you to provide for my every need. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Sometimes it is. It's a good place to start working. The tongue is the hardest one to control.

That includes everyone, since no one is perfect. I try to stay away from the bad influences of deceitful people.

I think sometimes we all do that, not on purpose. But we do promise things we cannot possibly keep. Although wrong regardless not everyone that does it means to be lying-they have good intentions but it is too big or beyond them to follow through.

True. There are those who are well meaning and are generally reliable. And then there are those who don't know how not to be deceitful in everything they do.

@just4him My husband has a wonderful heart and he has trouble saying no to people so he's always telling people he will do whatever they want him to do. He has really good intentions but some of it is impossible for one person! I am constantly telling him it's okay to say no now and then! People would rather you be honest than you promise everything because it's what they want to hear at the time...
