The downside of enjoyment

There are things we enjoy - warm weather, the garden, the life we live and the pool - but there is a downside to that pool. It's been running since the weekend, we've dumped in all kinds of chemicals and baking soda and a list of other stuff. A lot of the stuff we had on hand, so dollar-wise the output hasn't been too bad. But the bad is there - the algae is gone but the water is not clearing up - it's very cloudy. The pool company says the only way to fix this is to have the sand in the filter replaced. That isn't what we wanted to hear but it is probably the answer. This is not a do-it-yourself job for people our age. Nope, this will have to be done by the pros. The sand has to be removed from the filter, the pipes are cut (don't ask why I just repeat what I'm told) and then new pipes put in. It is a 3-hour job and it's about $300. My only fear is that once that job is done and the water doesn't clear up - then what? We have to bite the bullet, no sense playing games. We will be visiting the pool store later today to make arrangements. It hasn't stopped Ruby from swimming - all the levels are perfect so it's safe to swim in. Photo is mine. Maybe we just just stick with that little pink pool LOL!

Poor Ruby she cannot swim, but at least she enjoys to stay with her "feet" in the water. I wonder if it was the warm winter that has caused the water to become so cloudy.

@AbbyGreenhill From June to September you use the filter all the time, while you do not use it during Winter.

Ruby can swim, the water is perfectly balanced chemical wise. Heat doesn't cloud it if it did it would be cloudy all the time from June to September.

@LadyDuck We use the filter from the day the pool is uncovered until the day it gets covered - that's now until October.

She's a happy dog all the time, but happier in water.

it's not easy and certainly not cheap to maintain a pool...

We don't normally have to spend a lot of money to maintain the pool, this is unusual.

Yes, it does seem like that there are always hidden expenses to pools and other things that we never expected.

I always think the pool will cost us more than what my husband things it will cost.

That little pool would certainly be cheaper but no comparison on the level of the fun!

We ignored the pool, let it try to clear up, went away a few days, it's clear, but not right - going to pool company tomorrow to set up app't for sand replacement.

There is downside to everything as Roses always have thorn in them. Swimming in polluted water is a bad thing by the way. It is best not to do that I would suggest.

I think we are smart enough not to swim in polluted water, but the pool water was not polluted and this post is well over a year old! The issue was fixed long ago.

@AbbyGreenhill Sorry but that was just a suggestion. May be it is fixed now.
