I received my notice of renewal of my Driver's License this week and was pleasantly surprised to see it had gone down in cost. "Your good driving record and the increasingly safe behaviour of Quebecers on the road have a direct impact on the number of accident victims, which has allowed us to reduce the amount of your insurance contributions." We are also going to get a reduction on our vehicle registration, so total savings will be about $65 each year up until 2018. So when prices are rising on so many things, it was great to get some good news for a change.

That's wonderful. Now if they'd only halt the rise in gasoline!

Ours goes up at least ten cents a liter every Monday night, gradually drops back down over the next few days, then repeats the next week. I must remember to fill up on next Monday for my trip.

@AnneEJ I have a learner's permit. So, I do drive, but can't drive by myself yet. So this doesn't really apply to me yet.

I think that all drivers in Quebec are receiving this reduction, if they don't have demerit points/ Do you drive?

I can imagine that you were very surprised with this. I can't think of the last time our government dropped any cost.

One good thing is that they just send us a notice, and if there are no changes, we do not need to do anything. I have my payments deducted automatically each month.

My husband had his driver license renewed this morning. He drives since he was 18 years old, that is 52 years of driving without an accident. He also has a reduced insurance amount.

Congratulations! My regular car insurance is cheaper as well because of my driving record.

Anything that goes down in price is a big plus in my book. Sadly I haven't seen much of that with my own personal bills and expenses

I am so thankful that I have not had any accidents or tickets. This is not the easiest city to drive in.

A big part of our license and registration is insurance. We also have to take out a regular car insurance policy, but it is much cheaper than what I paid in another province.
