Bloody knuckles.

Lately I've been trying to get my parrot to step up onto my hand or at least let my hand close to him when he doesn't see that there's a treat involved. And for the most part it's great. He presses his beak to the back of my hand and doesn't bite it... Unless it's my knuckles. That beak made for splitting seeds and cracking nuts digs in to the bony part and he bites HARD. I'm used to the bites by now, but the bruises and bloody hands makes me feel like I was boxing without gloves. I wish he'd give the normal warning and pin his eyes, but he just reaches over and bites and I have to keep still and take it. Anyone else on her been bit by a pet? I won't say scratched, because if you guys own cats then you know they scratch.

Oh I know what you're going through. I went through that with my parrot when I first adopted her from the rescue. They called her "the red-headed pit bull". You can try making him step up from hand to hand several times after he bites to reinforce that you are the one in control of the situation. That's something that I did.

After he realized that my hand isn't going to kill him he found a lot of pleasure in rubbing his beak against my skin. So I'm bloody, but now he's content enough to fluff up and grind his beak with my hand in the cage.

I've been bit by a pet rabbit once. It's still one of my favorite stories to tell (despite the fact that I got bit), I was in 4-H and we just got back from the far with my rabbit, and my sister's friend came by for a visit, and wanted to see the rabbits. She asked me if they bit, I never got bit by a rabbit before and had no clue they bit, but the second I told her no, the rabbit bit me. So with that said I have learned not to say that animal doesn't bite. They just haven't bit YET.

You have made blood compact with your pet. Such bond.
