Today's Into the Groovy (#54) takes us to Israel, home of the late Ofra Haza (1957 - 2000), who was born in Tel Aviv to Yemenite parents. Ofra Haza had a beautiful voice, whether singing in English or in her native tongue. It was those pretty vocals that helped propel 1988's "Im Nin'Alu" into an international hit, #1 in several European countries, including Germany, where I heard it on a jukebox my first night in country. (On a side note, she lent her vocals to a Sisters of Mercy remake of their classic "Temple of Love," giving the guitar-heavy tune a bit of a Middle Eastern flavor. In fact, it was on the Sisters' website that I found out that she had passed away.) She was as pretty as her voice. I miss her.
Im Nin'Alu (If The Doors Are Locked) - Ofra Haza..... Im nin'alu daltei nedivim Daltei marom lo nin'alu Im nin'alu Im nin'alu El chai El chai Im nin'alu Im n...

Yes!!! Finally someone else who knows Ofra Haza! I think she was actually Yemenite. Anyway "Ya Ba Ye" is my favorite song of hers.

I've heard Yemen before. Wikipedia said Israel. I'm off to find the truth. Thanks for bringing that up, I want to be accurate. @JohnRoberts- All Music Guide has her born in Tel Aviv to Yemenite parents. I'm going to edit.

Terrific artist! She had a wonderful voice, and I was truly shocked when she was passed away.

I was too. I wouldn't have even known had I not been looking for possible new album news on the Sisters' website.

It good to know something new. I never heard of heard but I tried listening to her music. Her voice is so good and somehow it makes me calm. She is indeed really pretty.
