Suddenly A Basketball Fan

I don't watch a whole lot of sports on television. I used to be a big hockey fan but the Toronto team has been quite the disappointment in the last couple of decades. I will watch a Leaf game if there is nothing else on (but there usually is, like Ghost Adventures or my taped shows from earlier in the week). So I really only watch during the playoffs. This happened last fall with the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. They made it to the finals and I was desperate to find a television since my husband had cancelled the sports channels as a money saving effort. We found ourselves in the local sports bar one afternoon. After that I went online and got the sports channels back. Well, not all of them, but the ones I thought I would need. Now along come the Toronto Raptors basketball team, now in the second round of the playoffs. Some of the games have been on the sports channel I got back, some have been on a channel we never had and still don't. Tonight's game was on the channel we have, Friday's game will be on the "other" channel. I may be looking for a sports bar again on Friday night. Last week was the first time I have EVER watched a basketball game on television. (I watched my kids play on school teams). So I guess I'm not really a basketball fan, or a baseball fan, more like a Toronto sports fan. When it gets exciting, I want in. Especially when it's not just Toronto that's being represented but the whole country. I am a proud Canadian. We The North! Go Raptors Go!

Hi patgalca. I hear what you are saying about sports. The home team is your own team in your heart. I find basketball to be exciting at times as well. I especially like the excitement of a college basketball game. Seeing the skills of those young men is amazing. The professional basketball games are somewhat duller to me. And then some of those pro guys can be such divas.

Ain't that the truth. One of the Miami Heat players had the nerve to continue shooting hoops while the Canadian National Anthem was being sung at the last game in Miami. He didn't even apologize, just made excuses. But there has been some amazing basketball moves going on in this series. Every single game has been a nail-biter with 3 games going into overtime.

@Talknpen We used to have a net in our driveway and I shot hoops with my girls a couple of times... and I played in grade school. I wasn't much of an athlete.

Yes, I know. I was watching... on the edge of my seat. Friday's game, however, will be on the other channel and I will have to go find a place to watch it.

They did have a good run this year. Hopefully the team will continue to grow and next year will be even better.

I kinda have to like sports if i want to have a conversation with my hubby. He is on those fantasy gaming sites and he is always talking about baseball and basketball. i dont think he has tried hockey though. I might have to put the idea into his head.
