This is a flashback.@marguicha in her post saying that she almost burned the rice in the oven. Then this was a flash back for me.
A few years back. While washing my luncheon dishes. No I do not have a dishwasher. After I am done.Rinse my sponge and nuke it in the microwave.
I press the cook time.At this time it was nap time.
So I went to bed to take my nap. While sleeping awhile and woke up with the smell of fire. The detector did not go off.Refrain smoke very light.
I got up to see where it was coming from.Frantic I ran to my neighbor house
and drag him out of the house.Telling him that the house smell smoke.
He came over and we could not find anything. Then back in the kitchen and noticed that the microwave was on.I normally nuke the sponge for .28 second.
I hit the the wrong button and it was 28 minutes. The sponge was on fire and the microwave got damaged by the smoke. It was a total loss.
This was a scary time for me.But glad to find out that it was only the sponge burned and microwave zap.Almost burning down the house.
What a terrible feeling to had.shaking all over. But glad that it was not the house.

There are lots of things that can and will turn wrong while in the kitchen. Since I have the computer upstairs, I have a tendency of burning potatoes. Fortunatly, if you cut the burned part, they taste like barbecued potatoes.
The pot is another thing.

@amadeo I try. Specially since I´m thrifty and don´t throw away the burned pots.

I once caught a sponge on fire in the microwave too. The damage wasn't as bad as yours but it was pretty scary. Good song :))

I had a situation the other day where I was had put something in the oven to broil and it. and I when I opened it to take it out, I seen flames. I am usually a very cautious cook, but today I was off my game. There was a pan in the oven, that I forgot to take out and wash the night before, and it burned. Scariest thing ever. All of my alarms were going off. It took a long time to get the smell out the house and for me to calm down.

28 minutes huh lol... that sounds like something that I would do. But I bet that you will never nuke another sponge for 28 minutes. ;)

I remember one time my mother (I think it was my mother) was cooking something in the oven and it made the oven door blow off. My grandmother got a new oven after that.

I put a damp cleaning rag on the heater to dry, forgot about it, and went to bed. Luckily, my girlfriend found it before any damage was caused.

And this song was playing in my head while I was reading your post! Oh I am SO relieved that you were okay! How terrifying is that! I think I wouldn't have noticed for a while even if I had not taken a nap. Well, not until I smelled something bad. o
