Hi all
The pressure is on. @Inlemay has tasked me with writing something good for her to read. I respect her judgment utterly in nearly everything, but in this I have my doubts. I’m sure I’ve written the odd good post, but they are lost amongst the swathes of drivel I usually write, of which I have a seemingly inexhaustible supply.
Who can forget my thesis on the merits of black versus brown gloves? Or the a-z of toilets!
Anyway, I digress.
here is my faux pas:
A news item has caused a stir here in the last few days. A woman was sent home without pay after she refused to do an entire shift on reception wearing high heels. She was told she had to go out and buy a pair of high heeled shoes if she wanted to work. She replied that she would if the company could prove that she could not perform her duties equally well in flats. She also asked if men were expected to wear high heels too.
Strangely, it is still legal for companies to make this demand of women.
In our office a discussion was taking place about this, and a red faced girl was (understandably) upset by it. She turned to me and asked “Don’t you think the law needs changing?” To which I immediately responded:
“Absolutely, why not make women wear micro skirts and bikini tops for work too!?”
I can honestly say I was making an ironic point; unfortunately it didn’t come across that way!
Oh my!
Picture is of a sign I saw at a restaurant recently (just to fan the flames)

Oh wow - you should never, ever offer any disagreement or other argument to a lady stating the laws should change - you should just Nod and wave and say YES! With some commitment!! and then look for some male support before you say another word!
