Times have changed!!!
I can still remember my days when we used to long for vacations so that we could go outdoors and play for hours at end… no worries about home-work or studies and early sleep night. If it was too hot to go outdoors – then reading or drawing would keep me occupied.
But kids these days – for them vacations means more time in front of the TV or a choice of being stuck on their mobiles or gaming consoles! I must frankly admit that I have been truly blessed with 4 wonderfully talented and artistic children - while my older 3 are already on their way to adulthood, my youngest is 9 years. She likes to spend time drawing on any and every blank paper she finds or doing some craft projects.
She is moving from Grade 4 to Grade 5, and in the process will be leaving behind the teacher who was with her for 4 years. She has been pondering on what she could give her as a remembrance. After a lot of tossing ideas around, she recalled that her teacher always carried with her a notepad to jot down various things. So with bits and pieces of material that was around the house, we put together a notepad and bookmark with the initial of the teacher’s name. This project was done with transparency paper, glass paints and liner, along with scrap bits of paper and ribbon…and the above picture is the outcome. She has actually JUST completed it - the glue is still not dry!!! I do hope her teacher likes this gift …
