Creedence Clearwater Revival Concert

After many decades of dreaming about it, I finally got to attend a Creedance Clearwater Revival concert last night, an amazing show put on at our city's downtown plaza and bandshell. Okay, I admit that unless I'm a time traveller, having some secret way to travel back to the period 1968-1972, that I didn't really see the original Creedance Clearwater Revival, or CCR as their fans call them! Two CCR tribute bands took the stage last night to perform all the timeless classics of the original band. The groups Couch Messiahs and Wild Blue Yonder put on an amazing show, and with the looks and sounds of the original CCR, took us back in time for a few hours. It wasn't hard to imagine oneself back in the late 1960's, as the majority of the crowd look like they stepped right out of that turbulent period in American history. Hippies, protesters, flower children and more packed the downtown plaza for the concert, and were not disappointed with the performance. With the looks of the audience, and the sounds of the bands, I could just close my eyes and imagine I was back in 1969! I was just an infant in those days, but that particular time period in our nation's history, and the musical and societal influences at the time, have always fascinated me. So, for a few hours last night, I got to imagine myself actually being there! Are you a CCR fan? Did you ever see them in concert back during their heyday? Is there particular music that takes you back to a certain time period?

I was still a kid when the war was raging in SEA, a lot of beautiful protest songs came out from it. I still listen to ccr to this date, cause the messages are still very much relevant.

I agree. I think that's what makes many of CCR's songs so popular, and so timeless. Those songs had deeper meaning than just for enjoyment sake. A lot of their music was protest songs.

I didn't see them live, but I like their music. I like most of the music from the sixties. I graduated high school in 1966, so all of that music is meaningful to me. I saw The Doors, Elvis and the Beatles as well as many others over the years. I have not seen the Rolling Stones live, which is a pity.

@ElizabethWallace I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers in concert at my fraternity house in college before they became popular. They played in our courtyard to a crowd of about 100 people. It was pretty spectacular!

@moffittjc I saw the Doors when they were still a garage band in Venice. They played in our college student union which was a smallish room. We were really close and the music filled the room. It is a wonderful memory. I saw the Beatles at their first concert in the Hollywood Bowl. It was their second concert in the U.S.

@moffittjc Seeing professionals up close is unusual now. it used to be easy. I used to see all sorts of people in Las Vegas, back when they played small rooms. Now the rooms are so big, you need binoculars.

@moffittjc For one thing I had young children and secondly I like C@W music. I wasn't into hippies and protesters either nor did I want to be.

@Marcyaz Living in a major college town, I see my share of hippies and protesters. They really piss me off. Some of these people are stuck in the 60's and can't seem to move on with their lives. If I didn't know better, I'd think they were still protesting the Vietnam War! lol

Okay, now you've got me curious...what were these "other things" you were doing back then instead of listening to CCR?

@moffittjc I used to dislike it - until I met my husband and he got me interested in George Strait's music and I was hooked.

@AbbyGreenhill I was the same way! My whole life I used to hate country, and I would make fun of it any chance I got! Then, I started dating a girl who listened to country, and she got me listening to Brad Paisley, and I was hooked! After Brad, George Strait and Alan Jackson were two others that helped solidify the deal!

I'm like you Abby, my preferred choice of music these days is country music. I'm open-minded to all different genres of music, by my go-to choice is country.

Was it because you didn't like their style of music, or was it because they were the "poster child" for the anti-war movement?

I am an absolute fan of CCR. They sure did churn out some fantastic music... Till date, they are part of my listening collection. Sadly, no - I haven't been lucky to attend any of their concerts. To be honest, we do not get too many concerts here Goa. The only original band I did get to see recently was MLTR and years ago I went for a Wishbone Ash concert.

I never got to see the real CCR in concert, although I did see John Fogerty (the singer from CCR) in concert back in the late 80's or early 90's. He played many of the old CCR hits. It was pretty nice to enjoy!

@moffittjc Original CCR members Stu Cook and Doug Clifford have Creedence Clearwater Revisited which does a great tribute to their former band.

Strange as it was when all my peers liked the new musical rock groups coming out that were changing the music scene I liked putting on CCR instead. One favourite back then was Suzie Q The intro was just right but did he just say he liked the way she talk? And well lookin out my back door was just hick enough to do the lap slap. Yippy. But then we all got serious when we heard have you seen the rain.
