I have been trying to identify some of the wildflowers that are growing in our fields. This is one of the pictures I took while walking in our front field the other day.
I have identified this as "Blue Eyed Grass". It is actually not a grass at all but is related to the iris flower. It grows from rhizomes that send out long blade like foliage that looks like grass. It will send up a wiry stem topped with these blue petals and bright yellow centers.
Apparently, blue-eyed grass grows in many places around the US from Canada to south Texas. Have you seen this wildflower in your area?

I am going to try to dig some up today and transplant into one of my flower beds. Wish me luck!

I do not recall seeing them here in Southern California. They are nice.
