A couple years back when the "Ice Bucket Challenge" was trending on places like Facebook I really had no clue what it was really for, I mean I knew they were doing it for ALS but why I thought to myself.
As most of you know my grandma has been very sick and has been stuck in the hospital for a couple weeks and she has been doing pretty crappy and now the doctors have ruled out most of the things that she could of had and now they are focusing on her having "ALS". Which is very sad because her symptoms are over powering her.
The Doctors said she has a progressive bulbar palsy termed "bulbar-onset" ALS. Symptoms include speech slurring and difficulty swallowing, which she has.
She just got a feeding tube placed because she cant eat because when she does half of the food goes in her stomach and the other half goes in her lungs.
Ive gone in to see her at the hospital almost every other day and as much as I hate hospitals I feel comforted knowing I am there with her.
I havent always been there for her in the past so I kinda feel guilty for not being there all those years.

ALS is a horrible disease. A friend of mine has it. She has the familial type. We watched her dad die of it. It is heartbreaking. I don't quite get how dumping ice water on our heads is going to help. Most of us don't have an extra $100 or $500 lying around to give to the cause.

That is so sad, I knew nothing about this till it affected my grandma. Is the bucket of ice suppose to make you feel numb or pain as what ALS patients feel? I mean what is the significance of dumping ice on your head?

@Castlerock34 I don't know, I think you are supposed to donate $100 and if you can't, you get dumped on. I don't understand how that will help my friend or anyone else. She is mom to her six-year-old son and it won't help him either.
