Left or right ring finger?

The wedding picture shows the couple wear their wedding rings on the right hand finger.
(By the way, I didn't steal anyone's picture - it's from a photo I took years ago of a friend's wedding that I attended)
And looking at my own wedding ring, I realize I've always worn it on my left ring finger. I thought that would always be the way it was... But I guess I was wrong as some people do wear their wedding rings on the right finger.
I'm not sure if it's just based on the traditions and backgrounds of the couples. Hey, I don't even know what reason exactly that I wear mine on the left finger except to just follow what everyone else does or so I thought...
I did hear about one explanation that I like on wearing it on the left ring finger. It came from the belief that a vein ran directly from the fourth finger on the left hand to the heart, so it's like a direct hand-heart connection. That belief may not even correct according to medical science, but hey, I think it's a romantic reason for wedding ring to be worn on the ring finger of the left hand...

I don't even wear mine :) I think I only wore my wedding ring for a year or two. It's painful to my fingers, especially when you shake hands. Besides, I'm not really used to any kind of jewelry.

@sishy7 they seem to get in the way when worn on the dominant hand

Everyone I know wears it on the left hand but maybe there's a different tradition going on in that pic.

@MarymargII I heard how some cultures also consider the right hand as a more 'polite' hand than the left hand...

To my knowledge it is worn on the left finger. That's all I have seen.

@taramarie39 may not be all a change... in some cultures it may have always been the way to wear it on the right finger...

The ring goes in left hand :) there's a special reason behind it .... But all have different beliefs and rituals so it goes in that page :)

hahahaha!!!! DEFINITELY, THAT'S BEAUTIFUL DEFENSE OF YOURS! I LIKE YOUR EXPLANATION!
it is indeed good, to put your ring of love on the left because of the heart is on the left to beat.
i did also on my left my rings but im not married yet. im only having my id ring and classring.
one day, my Pastor said, i should not wear my engagement ring on my left finger. i told him it is not an engagement ring. it is an id ring that keeps on turning down that makes it look like an engagement ring at the back or other side of my id ring. eventhough i explained to him that it is not on my right finger and not an engagement ring, he still defended because it might look like im engaged and that i dont have to do it so someone will come near me. heheheh....

It's on my left too - and I heard that very same explanation as well. And like you said, we just do that because everyone else does that. I am a lefty and do everything with my hands, so the ring actually stays out of the way just where it is (by the way, I'm really not a "ring" person - so this works out well).

All thanks to the romantic movies and serials on televisions that I also know of the same reason for which the wedding ring is worn on the left ring finger.
And I have always seen people wearing it there. This is the first time I am seeing a couple wearing it in their right.
Well, I prefer left!
(Due to the cliched re@son!)

Sishy? Were the bride and groom from one of the European countries? Maybe Germany, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Norway or Russia? It would make sense for the rings to be on the right hands instead of the left if they were from one of those countries, since that is the traditional hand a wedding ring is worn on there....

@sishy7 Maybe, I'm not sure. My mother was the one who told me that it should be in the right finger.

I wear my engagement ring on my left finger, but it's only due to comfort reasons. I don't think I'd ever switch over to my right finger. Nothing feels comfortable on my dominant hand.

@sishy7 It's funny how we use our right hand for everything, but when it comes to jewelry it just doesn't feel right. I always feel like jewelry gets in the way when it's on my right hand.
