So, the new government of the Philippines to impose no more wearing of uniforms when you go to school. Forget those while blouse in the upper portion and slacks in the lower portion of the body when President Rody Duterte assume his post in Malacanang. This is his plan for the Department of Education. But hey, why? Would that be good for the students? What if the students walk in the catwalk in the school because there is no worry on what they wear in the school? It would be like colorful in and out of the school premises. No more distinction of the school. Added expenses, said those people who are against wearing of the uniform. But isn't that be more expenditures if the students wants to wear beautiful and new dresses everyday. In uniform, you buy once, you wear the whole year round. Hope they think it twice. Anyway, they can make it not obligatory if they really wanted to help the students.

Uniforms actually save money and it eliminates the competition between students. No one has to be concerned about style and fashion with the uniform rule in place.

I have never worn any uniform at school, as they have disappeared from continental Europe since the end of WW2, and it is looks like something obsolete for me. I do not think that my school life would have been better with an uniform.

@ilocosboy Yeah, at least a girl would learn how to wear a skirt : I have 2 high schools in my street, and 99% of these girls are wearing trousers. With an uniform they would learn that it is not an attribute for their gender.. To speak true, I can understand the attachment of Brits for school uniforms. It is part of their folklore, like Horse Guards in London or kilts in Scotland. But it is also a pure expression of a social conformism, a kind of collectivism in a world which is now oriented beyond the individual. Do you know why school uniforms have quite disappeared in Continental Europe ? Because at the end of WW2, they have been seen like the last obvious sign of a period where anybody had to conform to strict rules and was not allowed to express a personal opinion. To teach students a school needs 1) good teachers 2) to get parents involved 3) money. An uniform is not an indispensable tool.

@topffer such a word, so deep. Anyway, my point here is just simple, as simple as no compulsory for students to wear these uniforms. Anyway, as they employed, they will abide to the company which is wearing uniform accordingly. Uniform, its never a tool to development of the child... but it might be the good memory of where they studied. As you have said, its part of folklore, as a country have their own traditional dress, the schools have their own pattern of uniform.

Well, those who had their uniforms can continue using their uniforms, right? You're right, having a uniform is better for economy purposes and for distinction of students from different schools.

I hated my school's uniform in elementary and high school (Angelicum School) but that didn't mean like I didn't want to wear school uniform. I agree that wearing of uniforms give schools their own identity and they don't cost that much as well. I know in some countries they dont wear any school uniforms but I don't think Philippines is ready for that. I remember when I was in high school I would tell my mom to buy trousers that are bigger than my size, elephant pants slapshock style! In college they should be skinny then I'd wear those checkered vans sneakers. Emo style!

@ilocosboy Yeah uniforms are cool. They might be uncomfortable sometimes but I guess every student should wear it.

uniforms make it easy to get ready for school because you already know what you're going to wear so it saves time. some are handed down to younger siblings or to cousins if they're still presentable like skirts, pants, pe uniforms.
