Why Is This MY Job???

United States
May 20, 2016 9:36am CST
I went into the bathroom this morning and there is a totally empty toilet paper roll hanging on the roller. Next to the toilet sits a newly opened roll on the sink. Now I ask...how hard is it to just replace the old one with a new one? Obviously it's a big strenuous task and I'm the strongest in the household OR everyone was asleep in school that day when they taught how to change the toilet paper OR everyone else is just plain LAZY. Whatever the correct answer it seems as if it's my job to change the roll. I won't even go into the correct way to replace it (up or down) as I probably wouldn't care as long as it was done. I'm sitting here just shaking my head

If everyone thinks as you do, then the roll would never been replaced, right?

@transcendent exactly!! the roll would never be replaced here and would find other places rather than it's designated space

Now that we are empty nesters, I call the one bathroom, mine, and I never use the other one. Which leaves the responsibility up to my husband to fill the roller, I keep the supply stacked up under the vanity and he can replace a roll as he uses one.

I have 2 & 1/2 baths so I have no problem with the one in my room, the main one is theirs and I don't care if they put the TP on the roller or not since I don't go in there but the downstairs one which everyone uses is the one where no one ever replaces it.

@TheHorse 15 squares is quite extreme so I don't blame you for having a no pooping rule

And some are evil to trees. I had one friend who used like 15 squares for one wipe. I forbade her pooping at my house.

I'm guilty of leaving an almost empty roll on the hanger, but we have a new style holder now. It slips right on. For some reason having to release the spring loaded ones are too hard for husbands to handle.

It's a task that no one enjoys yet a necessary one. It only takes a second to change it which is why I'm always perplexed as to why it sits on the sink

The main reason for this, I deem, is that people has a propensity for not caring the public properties.

I bought a new holder just because this IS such a task. You do not even have to take it apart in order to change the TP. You simply slide the new roll on, easy right? Nope, they don't even do that!

Why do they even have those little roller thingies? I just put mine on the back of the toilet.

You could pull a sneaky on the rest of the household members by hiding the roll of TP to only you know where it is and can reach for it. That way when they are hollering from the bathroom, "Where is the TP?" You can say, "Well, gee, I don't know; I guess somebody forgot to put a new roll on the SPINDLE." Let them sit there awhile and eventually they will 'all' get the idea @Marilynda1225 .

This is not the first time I encounter the super woman that changes the roll. I used to be one. Now I live alone, so I must be IT. Many times, in the good old days, I dreamed of just letting the roller empty and bring my own piece of paper if I needed it. I wondered how long the situation would last. I never did it: it seems that it is part of my compulsive nature.

This is never a problem when one lives along. When living with someone, these things become a hassle. One person expects the other to do all the heavy lifting.

@Marilynda1225 Such things happen usually and we are just unable to even think. I faced the same situation in washroom when the toilet was not clean and there was only one for use. So was that my job to clean it and use it, It was horrible experience of my life!
