The Healing of Music

Today a friend of mine was buried. He passed away this week surrounded by his friends and family. His daughter asked if I could sing a reflection hymn at his service. How can you possibly say no? So I sang a song I thought would be comforting to the family. It is the one of the newest songs by Blake Shelton called "My Savior's Shadow". The song has meaning because it sings as if it is comforting his loved ones, that he is ok, he is standing in the savior's shadow where he is at peace. The devil (cancer) may have devoured his body but it did not get the things that mattered. After the service the family approached me, to compliment me on how soothing the song made them feel. The power of music and song always astounds me, how it can interpret almost every emotion imaginable. I was more than honored to have this opportunity to sooth a grieving family. "Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul." Author: Unknown
