What Are Your Favorite Perennial Flowers

Every spring I plant some perennials, in hopes that someday I will have a yard full of flowers without having to plant every time. Some of them come back and some of them don't.
One of my favorite flowers are daisies. I had daisies coming back for a few years, then they just disappeared. I have planted more this year. Cone flowers are another of my favorites and again, they came back for several years, then just disappeared too!
I would love to know what your favorite perennials are that come back each year.

I do have some pink phlox and I love that it spreads, but I wish it would bloom all year. My blooms are already gone. I have always wanted to get a rose of Sharon, I'm glad you reminded me of that! I will be looking for one the next time I go to the garden center!

I have not tried to grow rhododendrons before. I have tried and failed at azaleas and bleeding hearts. I think it is too hot here for the bleeding hearts, but I see many homes around here with beautiful azaleas. Once hubby builds my front porch deck, I am going to try to plant them again. They will be on the north side of the house which I have heard is the best place for them.

I do have day lilies, which I love! My iris come back and multiply each year too. I have tried bleeding hearts, but I think it is too hot here for them. What is that in this lovely picture?

lavender. i'm a huge fan'f the schtuff :) ya got that kinda trouble with cone flowers, too?? here i thought such was jest me, lol. had margaurite daisies here fer a few years, planted with blue flax'n indian blanket flowers. they were jest gorgeous, to the point that folks'd stop'n admire 'em. sadly the drought took care'f 'em by the 2nd year'f such.
i'd thought'f replantin' that bed 'fter all the rains from last year, but't appears we're headin' back into drought.

@sgbrown perhaps they're gettin' too much rain't'cher place, ms. sheila? the blanket flowers 'round here grow best'n the side'f the road'n with poor soils. the lavender 'n cone flowers're purty hardy once drought hits....if'n there's not a caliche base beneath'em anyhow.
thanks! i think we're gonna need all the help we can get! 'course, i'm kinda glad the vast majority'f these recent storms'f skirted by's. not that i wish such weather'n other folks, we could all do without the 70mph straightline winds, hailstones bigger'n softballs 'n torrential rainfall.

I am going to have to try some lavender, I love the smell! I planted more cone flowers yesterday, in a better location, I think. I sure hope they come back next year! I also planted some Indian Blanket flowers, they are so pretty! I am crossing my fingers that they will come back also. I am going to heavily mulch my flower beds this fall!
We have had a lot of rain this year, so I am hoping we won't have drought conditions again this year. I will cross my fingers for you!

I'd love to have a beautiful yard. Alas, i do not. I planted a few perennials in a raised area. Some come back. I had 3 hostaS in it & only one came back this year. :-(

I love daisies, but around our house we have lots of roses and Birds of Paradise. Roses bloom the year around, here, if we fertilize them a couple of times a year. That makes them especially nice.
