Don't share your ATM pins with anyone

One day in class, one of my friends freaked out as she checked her phone and saw a message she had received the previous night that said that a fairly large sum of money has been withdrawn from card. She was shocked because the card was with her right then in her bag! She shared the incident with her close friends and one of them suggested that she should immediately approach the bank attached to the ATM and ask for the CCTV footage.. My friend thought that was a good idea and immediately requested to see the footage. She knew it had to be one of the girls because the card could have been stolen from the hostel room where only girls stayed.
As soon as the thief heard of the CCTV footage plan, she wrote a note saying sorry and returned all the money in an envelope. In any case, my friend was determined to find out who the thief was.. so she continued pursuing the bank officials. When the footage was finally out, we were all at the airport as it was the last day of the semester. When she watched the video, my friend was in denial for a very long time and refused to show the video to any of us. However when we watched the video, we were just as shocked. The thief was none other than the girl who suggested that we get the footage in the first place!! And she was her best friend! Turns out she never expected that the bank officials would finally give her the footage because it's a fairly long process and banks are generally quite reluctant.. on being asked later, she said that she was desperate for the money which I doubt is the truth since shes always loaded. The fact that she returned the money probably shows that she was scared out of her wits when the bank agreed to show the video. She probably thought my friend would give up on the footage idea.. too bad for her though!
So please be very careful. Do not share your ATM pins with any one because well, money can ruin the best of friendships. Be sure about who you're sharing these details with and keep your card in any safe place or with you at all times.

Hi there Yogafreak!
Oh, aside from that being a scary experience, it is also painful because a bestfriend is someone whom you love and trust and for that person to turn her back on you over money breaks that ever fragile trust. I just hope that she will learn her lesson yet still have the heart to forgive and mend their friendship after what happened.

@Curlybobby I know. With such incident, it is rare that a friend can regain the other's trust...

That's why my friend is in shock about the entire episode.. but she's still being cautious not to mention this incident to anyone so that her identity can be protected. The love still remains. It's just the trust that will take time to come back..

Your ATM, PIN and your money is on your hand, it's your choice of you want to share your security features, atm or your pin.. well it's nice that she return the money.

It is.. but it seemed more like a move to stop my friend from getting the footage than a genuine act of repentance. She thought my friend would let it be now that the money was returned.
