Car Insurance "Almost" Dilemma - I was about to be excluded from driving my own car!

Background Story: - I'm under my parents' car insurance policy. We have 2 cars but 3 drivers. I sold my car 2 years ago because I didn't feel the need to have a car. (Mom + I carpooled to work for 3 years+, then when I wasn't at work, my boyfriend drove.) - My boyfriend has his own car and is under his parents' car insurance policy Last day of 2015, my boyfriend & I purchased a new car. During the 1st month you're given time to shop for car insurance for the vehicle. We got a quote at the car insurance we're both with & they gave us a ridiculous quote of $1,600 a year for 2 cars. It was cheaper for us to remain on our parents' plans so he added our car to his policy. - NOW - his parents' moved out of state, so he called to get his own insurance policy. We were on the phone with the insurance company for a hour and half! The insurance company ran through driving reports, gathered all information then... the phone rep said since the car we share together has my name on the title, I will be excluded from driving the car unless, I am added to the policy. The solution was to have me added to the car policy. As the phone rep gathered my name + drivers license, she recognized that I am already a member & I no longer need to be added to the insurance policy. Phew! By me still being under my parents, we are only saving $300 from the quote given per year. Any savings is better than no savings though! I'd wish if they gave us a better deal though but I am happy that I am not excluded from driving the car too! Do you have a good car insurance policy and priced reasonably? Even with the good drivers record, loyalty to the company and multiple car savings, it's rather expensive!

Insurance is not cheap, but its a necessity. And to buy cheap insurance isn't always the way to go. Our car insurance is very high because of the county we live in. We have more chance of being hit by a deer or a John Deere than by a driver with car insurance. Therefore, high rates.

Yes! You are correct. Insurance is not cheap, but comparing prices with my parents/his - my parents have better/higher bodily injury liability, properly damage liberally, medical payments, and paying cheaper. If he was to go as high as my parents, the rates increase. I guess it also factors in on how many years we've been driving too. I will not go cheap for insurance too. I know some who pay very little or do not buy certain areas to have the cost cheaper.

In our country, we have our cars insured separately. The compulsory insurance is that of third party liability. The car owner can opt to buy additional insurance for third party property damage as well or have a comprehensive insurance which covers everything including own damage.

Insurance drives me crazy Such a pain to be on the phone for so long. When all he was doing was keeping the same kind of policy just need new ownership for his policy. For us we pay for bodily injury liability, properly damage liberally, medical payments, comprehensive, collusion, roadside assistance, rental assistance, uninsured motorists protection and uninsured motorists collision deductible waiver. I just read through the policy. Speaking about calls, I need to call the health insurance tomorrow. They charged me $120 over than what I pay for health insurance.

@infatuatedbby But are all those you mentioned compulsory to have your car running on the road, Ms. Michelle?

@sunrisefan Oh no. It is not mandatory. You have the options to buy/not buy. I think you need just basic car insurance to drive on the road. This is to save our tush in an event if something were to happen. The policy I have with my parents have a higher rate whereas my boyfriend has a little bit cheaper coverage. There is even higher coverage too, but its very expensive.

My insurance per year is very low. I have never had an accident or anything. I would about being under my parents policy that if I got in an accident the cost of their policy would increase.

The rate depends on the age of the driver. The older you get he cheaper he insurance.

I haven't compared insurance companies because everyone wants your personal information but comparing what plan I have with the same company on my parents + my boyfriends. He's paying more for less coverage.

@teamfreak16 That is true. That's why when I sold my car - I still kept insurance because I don't want increase in coverage later down the road.

@infatuatedbby - Except that when I do need it, they screw you by jacking up the rates because you haven't had insurance for awhile, even if you haven't owned anything to insure.

wow you definitely got lucky there! I can't afford a car anymore so I'm saving tons of money these days. No car. No insurance. No taxes. No gas. And even my driver's license was going to be too expensive so I gave that up, too.
