Which detective story writer is popular Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle?

There are many detective story writers in the world who are very popular. Many laymen also studied Agatha Christie's "And then there were none", "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd", Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Boscombe Valley Tragedy", "A Study in the Scarlet", to name a few. There were other writers like Edgar Allen Poe who wrote mystery stories. Among Indians Satyajit Ray, Saradindu Banerjee, Premendro Mitro, Hemendra Kumar Roy did a great job in mystery stories. Popular detectives in the world include Sherlock Holmes, Byomkesh Bakshi, Prodosh Chondro Mitra, Kate Ivory, to name a few. Readers enjoy those stories a lot.

I also think Agatha Christie is the most famous. Her works have been translated into over 100 different languages. I love her books.

Thanks Chloe for the comments. I also love Agatha Christie stories. Arthur Conan Doyle's language was orthodox and many people did not understand the language. Sherlock Holmes as a fiction character is also very popular.

@marlina They are both very entertaining. I would have to say that the Sherlock Holmes character is probably more popular than either Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot (but he's my personal favorite).

Agatha Christie is very popular. Many people also like the stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. His detective stories about Sherlock Holmes are very popular, but he has also written other kinds of stories (horror stories) I don't know the Indian authors that you mentioned, and I guess we can't find their books in my country.

@sathviksouvik I read most of Agatha Christie's stories when I was younger. At that time I also read the detective stories by Arthur Conan Doyle. Some years ago I discovered his horror stories. They are interesting as well but less wellknown.

Thanks Porcospino. Yes I love both Conan Doyle and Agatha Christie. I am also admirer of other writers like Hector Hugh Munro, William Somerset Maugham, Charles Dickens, may be that there stories were not related to crime thrillers.

I'm going to have to agree with other members, when I say that I think that Agatha Christie is more popular. I do believe that people do still enjoy Sherlock Holmes and the stories that Arthur Conan Doyle wrote, but I do think readers tend to read Agatha Christie's books more. I think she is still the more popular of the two.

Agatha Christie is the world's best selling author. More of her books have sold than any other author.
