An Award for a Photo

My 'regulars' would know that my husband, Vince, loves photography and I use a lot of his photos on my posts. He also belongs to a couple of photography websites and enjoys sharing his work there. One is a Facebook site which put up a competition a short while ago.
You can imagine the pleasure when Vince's photo has been awarded second place. The subject was to be a street scene and Vince entered one from Amiens in northern France. We had coffee overlooking these colourful umbrellas which were strung on wires. There were deck chairs underneath and a sandy area where children were playing.
I thought you'd enjoy seeing the photo too. For the competition, Vince cropped the photo a little but all I've done is compressed it so it will accepted here – hopefully.

Very beautiful shot! The color contrast of the subject against the background is very distinct.One can imagine that the umbrellas were floating like colored bubbles in a pond! (maybe am thinking of colored jellyfish floating).

@silvermist From memory we had flat white coffee and a piece of cake each. It was a long time ago now - or so it seems but it was only about 10 months ago.

@JudyEv That's how my husband felt a few years ago when he won a blue ribbon at the county fair - he was shocked.

@AbbyGreenhill What did he win it for? When I was young I always rode my pony and we exhibited sheep. Later I used to exhibit crochet.

congrats to mr. vince! what'n interestin' place, so colorful 'n filled with whimsy. here, they'd need more'n wire to keep those umbrella's e'en'n the same county most days, lol. ya know, coz the winds to be a tad fierce'n these parts?

@JudyEv ah yes, those winds...somethin' we deal with most all the spring 'round here. 've'd many a time i've crossed my fingers the horses'd get theirs ate quickly's well - not knowin' what county such'd wind'p'n, lol. one time, the winds blew so hard'n fierce durin' the winter that i couldn't e'en find the horses. they'd been terrorized by huge tumbleweeds, their corrals filled to the brim :(

It is colourful. When we first moved here we remarked for days about how there was very little wind. It was horrible where we lived before. I would put the horses' hay out on one side of the paddock and hoped they'd eat it before it blew out the other side.

@sueznewz2 I don't really know. At the time, I thought it was something creative put up for tourists and locals maybe. There might have been a notice near it but my French isn't very good and if I read it I've forgotten it now.

As I looked at the photo, I was like... how these umbrellas are kind of floating up in the air. Thanks for clarifying that on the discussion.
As for the pic, definitely, it is something great and worthy of winning for sure. I havent been a regular on your posts, I admit, but I have loved a few photos that your hubby (Vince) had done and you shared them. I even have the photo of the rising sun that you posted earlier as my desktop wall paper. And that is going to be replaced with this one. Hope you permit me doing that and dont treat me as a pirate.

@JudyEv Somewhere back until early 1990s I loved photography. Never studied it and always have been an amateur. one day there was a robbery at our house and they took away my hand made photo albums and also the camera (apart from other stuff). I had spent hours and lots of my pocket money into making those. Since that day, I gave up, also because it was becoming an expensive hobby.
Years later, now that we have a baby, I have got myself a Nikon (not a great one but something that I could afford and it has no special features). I plan to capture her photos and maybe gift her when she understands.
and thanks for the mention of the "another one". I will find it soon.

@thesids That must have been heart-breaking to have lost so much. I would have given up too. But having a baby is a great excuse to start up again. Vince has only done a couple of small courses here and there but he really enjoys it.
