Boy, what a let down these past few days have been.
Mom's Estate hearing will be on Tuesday so naturally I decided I'd break out my old work clothes which have been hangin unused in my closet since I retired in 2010. I've had no real use for them since I mostly wear jeans when I go out n about, don't you?
So I tried on a pair of pants that I used to like and of all the nerve the dang thing shrunk while hangin in my closet. I did get them on but then I looked in the mirror YIKESSS, I looked like a sausage.
Well, I don't want to go to court in jeans so I booked to the mall and looked for some nice pair of pants that were in a larger size. it's so appalling, they've changed the sizes on all of them. The size 16 is now so small it might as well be a size 14 then when I asked where the size 18's were some of those stores told me they didn't have sizes that big .... WTH, I'm not that big!!! I know I'm a 16 it's just that they changed the sizing again!!!
So after 2 days waltzin round this dingy city I finally went out of my way to another JCP across town about 40 miles off. Finally they had a lotta pants in all sizes. Yep, from 0 to 26w. the dang mirror lied, I couldn't possibly be that rotund .... could I?
Suffice it to say I ended up buy 2 pair 20w's and I'm still refuzin to diet, well, I'm on a seefood diet but that's it. Don't you hate those dang mirrors that distort our image?
Gheeee, thanks for lettin me rant, so how's your weekend starten?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got one of those unexpected pictures a last time this one is when I was snapping fast in hopes I'd get a shot of the two together, it worked but doesn't Ally look like she's laughin at me?
She is laughing at you. You should have gone to a second hand store or a charity shop. I've found the best ever hand me downs that I love! Also a Wally's World they sell jeans that look like pants and sooooo comfortable. I hate those mirrors too.
Yep, she certainly was laughing at me but I plan to get even
I wish they had decent hand me down round here but usually it's just over worn tee shirts or bridal/prom gowns.
Went to Wally first, I asked for help and the sales lady actually told me that my size is the first to sell and they'd run out of everything ..... talk about stunned, that I was.
No, it's one of those stupid things that has to be done when there is no will. 2 witnesses that aren't related to us need to attest that we are the only children of both my parents and once that's been determined they'll release everything to us, it's supposed to be divided 50/50, I guess I'll find out how that turns out won't I
Ouch , I've never been a fan of clothes shopping myself. So I can see where it can be annoying. I have never paid attention to what a mirror says. I know my body isn't near what it was when I was in high school. And, yes finding new clothes that fit isn't fun. it also shows how much I do it. If you are comfortable in your skin don't change. Stay true to who you are.
By the way, I love that picture of your animals. They are so cute.
@rebelann no problem. I too do all my clothes shopping at Walmart myself. It's good you found something in time.
And, while I'm a cat person myself, I have had both. They didn't even seem to notice the camera.
I go to court times to times to defend the interests of a few associations, and if I spend a lot of time on the case, I never care of what I will wear. I remember that I kept once my coat and a long scarf to plead in the court room because I had a cold, and it did not prevented me to win.
Speaking of clothes, except for shoes and underwear, I buy mainly in second hand shops : they are cheap and have a lot of choice.
I have noticed last year that I was needing a size more my pants. It is probably true that they changed the sizing, but I do an effort to go back to my usual size : I was wearing the same size since the age of 16.
@rebelann Lawyers registered to a bar have to wear a black gown, and it is practical, as they can wear whatever they want under it. As I am not a professional lawyer registered to a bar, I am allowed to wear whatever I want as long as it is decent : I would possibly have troubles in shorts and thongs. Speaking of decency we had a sexist law in the past, forbidding to a woman to go to court with pants, but this law was not anymore enforced, and has been repealed in 2013.
I have also ballooned a bit in the past 2 years.
Wow, don't the judges and other officials have expectations for attorneys to look presentable?
Here they have certain rules.
Show off, I wore the same size from 18 to about 30 then I began to get heavier, once I stopped smoking I ballooned big time.
Our drought started in 2007 and we're still in one @Hatley but the desert does that, it'll be a drought for 8 to 10 years than we'll get a couple wet years then back in a drought. This is the first time in the 56 years I've lived in this county that the Rio Grande is mostly dry, that isn't good at all.
I have the same sort of clothes (maybe the fabric is not good?). The clothes (specially the jeans) have a tendency to shrink in the closet. I have several awesome corduroy jeans that were so comfortable that I though I would die with them on. The ... (curse word) shrunk. And yes, sizes are smaller.
@rebelann My friend Lili has that problem. She is now doing exercise in a static bicycle and she says it has helped her.
I actually have a pear shape @marguicha from the waist down I am a 20W, but I can wear size 16 tops, the only problem is if it's long it won't fit over my bottom.
I'll be looking at maternity tops from now on, at least they're bigger around the belly and butt.
So your jeans got shrunk in your wardrobe. Never heard of this Anyway all that running around must have resulted in your losing a few kilos.
I think your doggie needs to lose some weight too (lol)
@rebelann She cannot hide her girth.Can she. Look at that size in the picture I know ladies do not like when they are told that they are looking fat. Ask her to join you and ask that question to the mirror!!!!
We have been told the sizes are running smaller too. The funniest thing to me was hearing that undergarments were smaller, so buy a larger size.
Oh dang, that's not good.
I have noticed that a lot of the clothes I need to replace are hard to find anymore, some items that I need seem to be intended for those with short body frames, that's really not good for me as I am taller than the average woman in these parts.
I really think they have altered the sizes, the 20s I bought recently are as big as the 18s I had been wearing ..... besides, it makes me feel better to think so
I hate it when the mirror lies and then the store sizes do the same. Looks like we're the same size. I think it's time to get off the seefood diet. I've lost 15# and hope to continue the downward trend. I would like to buy a new smaller size wardrobe in the near future. Working my way to a size 18.
Hey, my jeans fit just fine, they're all size 18 but when I looked for the nicer slacks at JCP I had to go to a size 20w, I'm not interested in losing weight per say, if I do fine if not too bad, I don't plan on starving myself.
I really shouldn't complain, I haven't bought dressy closes since ... well, non jeans anyways ... since before I retired. All my jeans are size 18 and they all fit, I even bought a pair a couple weeks ago cuz I've wore out the old ones, they fit just fine but danged if those dressier pants run smaller than jeans. On the upside, at least now I know what size to look for, right?
I have the feeling that next time I'll be buyin 22Ws I didn't see any 21Ws if there is a such thingy @just4him oddly the jeans I bought a couple weeks ago were 18s which when I matched them up to a really old pair of my pants which are 16s matched perfectly in size, I think the garment industry is trying very hard to shame anyone who isn't anorexic.
@rebelann I absolutely adored this. Thank you for bringing the truth to light. I knew those dang manufacturers were up to something. They never did this when we were younger...the sizes were true and they did not shrink on their own in the closet.
Exactly! At least the jeans I buy have remained at size 18 for several years, the only problem I ran into was that the dressier slacks seem to run small.
I have the opposite problem. I am too skinny. Can't seem to gain any weight.
