Retirement Is Boring? Of Course Not!

When I decided to finally go for early retirement, my office mates, friends and some neighbors were discouraging me. They were saying I am still young and retirement means boredom.
But. I did not want to be tied up furthermore in the office for eight or more hours each day. I was eager to end my long years of commuting from home to office. I wanted to spend more time in my garden, I wanted to do so many things at home, I was missing so many quality moments with my family. So I retired.
Did I get bored? No because I did not stop being productive. There are a lot to do and enjoy so why get bored? I keep myself busy with things that interest me the most. But I own my time now so no need to rush, and no need to get stressed. I can take a break and rest when I feel like doing so. I can go to different places whenever I want, I can spend long hours doing the things I love doing most. I love this kind of freedom!
Are you free? What kind of freedom do you now enjoy?

You spent 8 hours in the office, I spent 12. I was always the last man out because I had to make sure everything was balanced in all departments. If there was a difference of even a centavo, I had to find it and if I don't I had to come very early the following morning to find it. I have missed so many dinners in the course of my employment. I availed of early retirement and had no regrets about it. What has only been missed was the payday, nothing else.

Right now I'm a stay-at-home mom. I'm not tied to a desk, or anything like that. Each day is different. I'm enjoying it. Sure I'd like to work, but I'm still young. I can easily wait to go back to work. When they're all in school, I can easily start working part time. But for the moment, I'm not tied to any wo k. The only job I have is being a mom to my kids, and I'm having fun.

I quit my job at the peak of my career.. It seemed so meaningless that I would earn so my children could have a good life and I was not there to enjoy it with them. I know that is one of the best decisions i have ever made.. Nope I am never bored.. I love all the things that I do now.. I am not forced to do something I don't like.

@salonga Let me see . . . my 4 children here are college graduates and independent . . My daughter in Ilocos is also a college graduate and independent but still lives with her mother. My son in Manila is also a college graduate and independent and still lives with her mother . . . I dont have communications with my daughter and son and their mom in Angeles City. And I also have another daughter that I don't even know her name . . . hahaha . . . Just kidding! . . Seriously, if all my children would have graduated, I would retire.

I also took early retirement when I reached 60 and I'm not bored at all. There is so much to do that the days just fly and the nights even faster.

Running my own company has some ups and downs. It's hard to find a free time to go and enjoy myself and when I do, I still get non-stop phone calls so much so that I had to turn my phone off sometimes. Nevertheless, my mind is still pre-occupied to the people left in the office and whether they're doing their job right. And the saddest part is, I don't think I'll ever retire.

Oh dear, running your own business is truly stressful and in fact more stressful that just getting employed I believe.
